PAC follows Big X
Two now only playing conference games. SEC and ACC will probably follow by end of July. SWC10 will probably play 9 games. The big four will play mostly regional games in their divisions. American problem is few regional conference games The Tigers only regional games this year are ASU and Martin. I guess you could consider Tulane a regional game

I wonder if they will give the seniors an extra year of eligibility.

IF there is only an 8 or 9 game season, there should be a 16 team playoff for this year only.

And that makes me wonder if they do get a 2nd year, what are they going to give (scholarship-wise) the incoming freshman class? Those schollies are still being used.
Another question - in the following season, when you have the bow wave of grads (regular seniors and “second year seniors”, what is the effect of that much talent leaving at the same time?
There are some things that will need to be dealt with....

Everyone gets an extra year. So you don't necessarily have a "bow wave".
Each team gets a temporary ncrease in scholly/roster limits. If you have 15 seniors who want to come back, you get 15 extra schollies. However when they leave, you lose that scholly - resetting back to the norm.
Would allow most freshmen to redshirt, which most need to anyway. The ones getting squeezed are current sophomores and juniors who are a year away from starting. That gets pushed. But ultimately it would work out.
Not perfect, but nothing is in current times.

If this happens it helps the Non-P5...
Many of those studs at the P5 schools will leave because they will be 3 years removed from high school. Granted they have other studs behind them waiting to take their place.
But the not P5 get an extra year of seasoning for their veterans.

SMU and Tulsa are also "regional" games. Probably consider Cincy as well.
Conferences are also considering actual same year H/A series with regional opponents - if they make the decision to go conference only.
The AAC could easily make this year a complete round robin format with 10 games. We would add Tulsa and ECU - one easy travel and one tough travel.
Or they could go with a H/A schedule with 5 regional-only teams. Ours might look like Houston, SMU, Cincy, Tulane, and Tulsa. The trick to this is that the AAC has 11 teams and I don't believe there's a balanced way to do it. All teams would have 10 games, except 1 team would be left with 8 games. I guess you could add a single game with 2 other teams to get to 10, and have those 2 teams with 11 games - but only 10 count in conference standings.

Tulsa is over 400 miles and SMU and Cinncy are farther. Kinda outside the midsouth region. Now Ole miz, Miz st, Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Alabama are all ln our region. This is one of the reasons adding TAM and Mizoo to the SEC only made sense to the networks.

So Tulsa is the same as Tulane. And SMU & Cincy are an hour further (driving). But we are closer to a bunch of SEC programs.
Well, sure.
Florida is 550 miles from Knoxville. Ole Miss and Miss State are 400 miles. But Tenn Tech is just 100 miles down I-40.
400 miles in FBS college football is normally considered "regional".
You're not making a lot of sense here. Are you saying we should be in the SEC, and UTK should be in the OVC? Ok, agree.

Feel like worst case we have a Spring football season. Just too much money on the table to skip an entire season. Although TBH every time I envision a "worst case scenario" something worse ends up actually happening. haha

Ain't it the truth! Every time I say "...can (fill in the blank) be any more stupid?" somewhere, someone takes that as a challenge....

The drive to Tulsa is a stifling 6hrs, doesn't feel regional to me. Consider the pod of Auburn, Alabama, Ole Mz, Mz St, and LSU. the farthest distance for that group is about 400 miles from LSU to Auburn. The rest are 350 or fewer miles. Many fans are closer to their rival schools than to the team they support. What I am saying is we have few regional rivalries in our conference. This is one reason I support playing OOC games with regional opponents! I like going on the road with the home team, and the shorter the road the better. I also support playing interregional OOC games once a year or so, games like Purdue. These help build the brand win lose or draw. Most OOC games only matter for end of season w/l record. the more w's the better the brand is built.
