RE: Pandemic and 2020 Fall Sports
Message to the conference commissioners:
GIVE UP ON FALL FOOTBALL. Far too much energy is being expended to conduct what, at best, is a half-assed season. The season, as originally planned is only six weeks away and there simply is too much uncertainty to plan out a "true" season. In our current polarized political environment and an election year, any health hiccups NCAA football might experience will just be fodder for the media and Presidential candidates.
Instead start planning on a winter/spring season.

Wow, if we have a spring CFB season we'll have CFB, MBB, WBB, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, etc.

That's the funny thing about EMU football. We would finally have fans spread out to the east side stands like we have always wished they did. Our regular Rynearson crowd is tailor made for pandemics.

The East seating, from my understanding, isn’t structurally sound and it wouldn’t be safe to have people over there.

We have a stadium that isn't safe for fans? It has been condemned?

Not college, but somewhat related, the MHSAA just announced they are having all their fall sports start as planned. They do have contingency plans in place, but they'll be back to normal to start at least.

My understanding is the upper level of the East stands have issues which is why it is tarped

I'm not sure.
My reading is that B1G is still a go.
MHSAA is still a go.
MAC is still a go.
Until I see B1G a no go or SEC a no go, I assume we'll have FBS FB, sans most of the OOC games
My gut is that the sports world is trying to see how MLB and NBA (and MLS) work out the next few weeks to see if containment will work (I realize it is hard to bubblize [I made the word up] college athletes. They have a life beyond FB).

Yeah, with everything cancelled and postponed over these past few months , let’s hopefully celebrate with a huge sports blitz in the spring when it could be safer. Hopefully, we get our act together as a country so that might be possible.

While most here seem to be very cautious (or favor not having a 2020 fall CFB season) there seems to be a different attitude in many other places.
MLS seems to be leading the way toward having some fans attend games and fans seem inclined. This article discussed steps D.C. United is taking to determine.
We might start to see MLB games with some fans. Referenced in the same article.
NFL - TBD.

Here is another exciting article. Bottom line:
Wearing a mask doesn't ensure one won't end up testing positive, BUT greatly increases the possibility of being asymptomatic.
My take: Wearing a mask and practicing social distancing, I wouldn't be afraid to attend an EMU FB game.

Steve, I truly don't think there is empirical evidence on the efficacy of masks. I, however, wear one whenever in public because I don't know either way and I want to show my concern for others. I simply cannot comprehend why this has become such a divisive issue as it truthfully is a microscopically small sacrifice for consumers.
I would have ZERO problem with going to EMU football games this fall but then I must consider the ramifications of doing so. I'm an old guy who likes to tailgate and I presume the portable restrooms in the parking lot will not exist. Once inside the stadium, what will the spacing restrictions be? Will the restrooms and concession stands have a limited capacity? How close can I sit to my buddies? If EMU has a fall season, I think I might prefer to view it on television.

As far as masks I use a N-95. I assume it is medical grade.
I doubt anyone is going to get Covid wearing a mask while possibly crossing paths with someone + while going to one's seat.
I go to church every Sunday and we practice social distancing. I don't feel uncomfortable.

I'm not worried about contracting the virus, I just don't think I will enjoy the game day experience with all of the restrictions.

MLB starts for real this week. We'll see how that goes.
I still say college sports are waiting until say July 31 because they'll have a small sample of experience with the pros and Covid.
