Hospitals get paid more for reporting the death as a COVID death. There are plenty of videos out there of officials clarifying how they decide it's COVID or not. Car accident? If you test positive for COVID it's coded as a COVID death. Die from the flu? It's a cardiovascular disease, so no reason to test... COVID death.

Even the CDC's death page (which looks really good) is throwing in "Deaths involving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), pneumonia, and influenza".

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid.../index.htm

Take a look at that first chart.

wow, you would think deaths were moving the opposite direction based on media coverage.

Go read the actual source for that data, you will notice that the notes say that there is a 1-8 week lag in reporting. Whatever screenshot that is is from 7/11. Cumulative deaths have already increased to over 2.1K in that week. Any data after mid-May in that chart is incomplete.

Here is source: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm

The chart came from the same source, but they haven't updated it since July 11. So, you're saying we'll see a May spike in the chart after they update it? What date are you saying is accurate on the chart? May 16th, but not May 23rd? Both are still close to half of what the deaths were in early April.

You dont need the chart... go look at the actual table data, its updated weekly. It already shows the reported deaths increasing since that snapshot.

The data is based on reported cause on death certificates from county coroners. Its pretty obvious there will massive be reporting lag (CDC says 1-8 weeks).

Outside of the 8 weeks would be May 9th (11K deaths).. awesome, a drop since April when we knew less about the disease but 11K deaths in a week is still a ton - would be over 500K deaths annualized

I'm honestly pursuing this... not just trying to argue. I'm looking at the very top chart on the link that was posted.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm

Column 2 (All Deaths involving COVID-19) shows a pretty clear peak on April 18th, then it consistently drops after that. I understand your point that it takes a while for the deaths to get reported, but there is NO increase after April 18th. Which date do you consider no longer valid?

Not arguing about a peak.. just using May 9th as point of reference im saying two things:

1) 11K deaths in a week is still a lot even if its on a downswing. Even if we assume an April peak if deaths stabilize around even 8-10K thats not good

2) Deaths are not an independent measure, they are an outcome of cases. If cases rise by a lot, there remains a chance deaths to start rising again. This may not be tghe case with younger, healthier people making up many new cases but we honestly dont know yet. If Texas and Florida continues to report 90-150 deaths per day then basic math tells you when that reporting lag hits the database it could impact numbers

Ok.. I get where you're coming from. Just thought there was some increase in there that I was missing. If it comes, it hasn't made it to the reporting yet.

Hmmmm...I wonder why they are getting removed.

Deep State?

Or could it be a more logical reason?

I haven't heard of the legit ones being removed. You haven't seen them because you choose not to look.

Illinois
Dr. Ngozi Ezike, Illinois Department of Public Health director

And now she has changed what she said in April
https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/coronavi...s/2270810/
Quote:“We are trying to make sure that things that aren’t related at all to the COVID diagnosis are removed, but if someone has another illness, like heart disease, and then had a stroke or other event, it’s not as easy to separate that and say COVID didn’t exacerbate that existing illness. That would not be removed from the count,” she added.

Colorado (announcing it was changing the way they count deaths to the right way)
https://covid19.colorado.gov/press-relea...-reporting
Quote:DENVER (May 15, 2020): The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) today explained the way it has been counting deaths among people with COVID-19 and announced an addition to data reporting going forward.

CDPHE explained that to date, its data dashboard included deaths among all people who had COVID-19 at the time of death. This included deaths caused by COVID-19 and deaths among people who had COVID-19 at the time of death, but the cause or causes may not have been attributed to COVID-19 on the death certificate. This is the standard way states report to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The videos are exactly what they have always been...They say that they are reporting COvid just like they are reporting the flu.

There is no grand conspiracy here.

And if you look at the all Deaths filter in the chart you will see as the date gets closer to current the count of all deaths decrease dramatically as well. It just takes a long time to go through all this data.

And I am sure that they are not combing through all the data with a fine toothed comb...But they never have. They are doing it the same they have done it with the flu and other diseases. If the symptoms on the death certificate (Especially if the death occurred outside of the hospital) match Covid or the Flu or whatever...They are going to classify it as that. I don't think this is new.

Not true. If you were on hospice for liver cancer and died, they didn't test you for influenza and then report it as a flu death.

It's actually very simple to understand, if you pay attention to the data and how it is reported by the media.
States report positive test results. Go to any state website and that is what you see, very clearly stated.
The media goes to these sites and gets the same data. But they report it as positive cases.
For example, whenever Shelby Co gets a large batch of positive tests back, the tv stations will state the "new surge in CASES" and cite the data. Every single one of them.

But if you still don't follow the logic, just look at what the CDC says.

Please provide sources for where you see "media" using test results as a standard measure instead of cases for anything other than positivity rate.. every media report ive ever seen references cases and tends to reflect the dashboard for the area. Every area dashboard ive seen is based on CASES and clearly says so.

Please provide sources for where you see "media" using test results as a standard measure instead of cases for anything other than positivity rate.. every media report ive ever seen references cases and tends to reflect the dashboard for the area. Every area dashboard ive seen is based on CASES and clearly says so.

Austin Example: https://austin.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsd...5a931fa984

State of Tennesse example:
https://experience.arcgis.com/experience...d291b85aed

You're citing the same thing I am, which is the actual data.
Now, watch and listen to how that data is reported.
I don't have to provide media sources, because it's on tv at least 6 times a day. WMC-5 tonight will report the new "CASES" in Shelby County, and they will show the TESTS data. They make no distinction from the multiple positives that are absolutely reported as positive TESTS on the health dept website.
It's a very simple point. There are multiple tests taken on individuals. TV media makes no distinction. No need to continue back and forth, as I've logically explained it and shown the CDC warning on the data.
(Another point is the multiple positive tests used in the positivity rate, artificially inflates that number as well. But if you can't accept the first point, I have no chance explaining the 2nd point to you.)

Can you please show where you learned that multiple positives show up as multiple cases? Health departments have said repeatedly that only one case is registered (https://www.dispatch.com/news/20200717/f...-new-cases)

I didn't say they end up as multiple cases. I said the media reports test results as cases. They conflate the data.

Ill have to defer to you on local news, i haven't watched a local news station in probably 15 years now. The national news/websites I read and/or watch all use CASES pretty clearly

Sure its counted in positivity rate.. but the tests to cases ratio is like 1.2 so not super concerned by that

Four Memphis Tigers players test positive for COVID.
Here’s a news story backing up how people never tested getting positives. Keep in mind this means that a positive person likely got the wrong result too.

No, they are not. They have your SS number and other identifying information. Just curious, what is your source for this claimed multiple reporting?

For those who can't use logic to see that the media is reporting this wrong, here:

We did not have 77k new CASES. We did have 77k new positive tests though.

This is just one example. A quick google brought up plenty of others. WaPost, MSNBC are particularly guilty of this - along with our own unreliable local media.

It's really very simple. Go to the data sources and look at positive and negative test numbers. Then simply notice that these positive tests numbers get reported as cases.

Florida was reporting 95% of their test were coming back positive when they should have reported 9.5%. This happened more than a few times which rules out a mistake. Things like this are the reason people don't trust the reports coming out about the virus. It causes people to be less careful and actual run the risk of getting the virus.

That is from July 17th. CDC showed 74,710 new CASES that day. Maybe they used tests but from that video I cant say definitely whether they used a different calculation method or used tests. Its within 3% either way.

I am not going through the trouble of looking it up for people who are too stubborn to see the truth anyway..

but I was reading an article recently that said there is NO CATEGORY FOR RE-TESTS. Every "re-test" is listed as a new positive.

Go look it up for yourselves. Even a monkey (or a lib) can do it.
