The SEC will play

I don't think that's a lock at all right now.

Well, yeah, with the epidemic out of control in Florida and Texas and looking danger of being out of control in South Carolina, Alabama and Louisiana, they might have to do an "Island" approach and move all of the teams and staff to Mississippi.

Not sure what their plan B will be when the epidemic starts running out of control in Mississippi.

26 legislators just tested positive for Covid (1 out of 7).

Among those testing positive in the heavily Republican body are the GOP presiding officers, House Speaker Philip Gunn and Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann.

I'm curious as to how many of these 26 were taking the virus seriously. I could stereotype and guess "zero," but I'll refrain.

NMSU AD concerned about loss of UCLA payday and potential loss of Florida game as well. NMSU is already close to the bone for athletic finances.

ND is fine; the ACC will help them out.

BYU and NMSU—the MWC should take the good with the bad and take the pair in for the year

Army—joins Navy in the AAC for 2020

Liberty, UConn, and UMass are goi g to have a harder time. Maybe a G5 would grant them a scheduling alliance for the season

Liberty will be fine no matter what. It’s not like LU is playing sports because it makes money. So if the season is cancelled.....meh.

Liberty might try to buy ACC spot for the year to off set Notre Dame. UConn and UMass will look to the MAC

The independents can play each other and fill in where needed for the other G5 and P5 holes. They can also load up on FCS schools this year. Doubt if there will be an FCS limit applied to bowl eligibility his year if here is even a season down the road later this fall. 04-cheers

They can make a 10 game schedule if they home and home each other as a makeshift conference.

Hypothetical BYU schedule:
Liberty
@ Liberty
UConn
@UConn
UMass
@UMass
Army
@Army
NMSU
@NMSU

BYU would probably go undefeated with this scrapped together schedule.

Yeah, there's a bunch of people who haven't thought this through.

If this virus is bad enough to cancel school and sports in the fall what is it going to be once you get into the typical season where viruses of the same type typically thrive?

Ya, no reason for the ACC (or AAC) to take Liberty. Same with the MAC and UConn/UMass. BYU has a chance at the MW, if they lose significant membership this year; the Big 12 and Pac 12 would rather play a few home-and-aways than add the Cougars. But, I suppose no reason to make BYU eligible for the conference championship; just include them in the MW football "bubble"; the Cougars can take it or cancel the season.

No, my post is based on these facts.

No herd immunity.

No effective treatment.

No vaccine.

Wishing, hoping and pretending that the virus will "disappear" does nothing.

The virus will still be here.

So, what will change that will allow sports next year?

Time to face reality.

Let's face it--the MWC and BYU ended badly. Commissioner Craig Thompson was a big part of that and he is still around as is BYU AD Tom Holmoe. Everyone keeps hoping the broken couple gets back together and everything is good again. The two parties do manage to get along well enough to be on each other's schedules fairly often--and 2020 games can be added if it works out for everyone--but I don't see any conference making future membership decisions in the middle of a pandemic.
