Good. "Washington" is an offensive word.

If we look close enough, can anyone be offended by Old Dominion or Monarchs? Maybe Old is deragatory.

Monarchs? Kind of political? Unless you just use the Lion King of the Jungle meaning...

Interesting that the "Bullets" changed their name a few years ago. Wizards seemed kind of weak to me...

The new QB in DC suggested renaming "Red Tails" in homage to the Tuskegee Airmen. Apparently a few of the first Airmen were from DC. I think it is a fabulous idea.

I find "Old Dominion" to be offensive and derogatory. "Old Dominion" harkens back to colonial days where birth determined the societal pecking order (https://www.encyclopediavirginia.org/).

We should protest to rename the university Eastern Virginia University, or just "university" and refer to it as "University" formerly Known As Old Dominion University. That way we can atone and erase our sordid past.

Also, topple the Monarch Lion (he has already been castrated) since he most certainly is know to have misogynistic tendencies in relations to female lions. 04-jawdrop

I personally like 'Virginia Swallowtails' in honor of the Virginia State Insect -- the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and much more inclusive for the rest of the State. Washington is offensive to some and DC is an insult to Chiropractors across the country.

Maybe Red Bull can buy naming rights. They already have their names on soccer clubs in Germany, Austria and New Jersey.

I think this will win out.

That doesn't make sense to me. If they stick with native American imagery, like the spear head, it still ties to the people group. It just kicks that can down the road, because people will be offended by "Warriors" too. Remember, W&M had to remove their feather so as not to trigger people. Id go as far away from anything like that as possible. In this day and age, Monarchs could even be considered offensive as it honors the royalty who colonized much of the world. Im shocked GW hasn't changed their mascot from the Colonials already.

If only the oppressors can be stopped from oppressing the oppressed. Then we will all be “equal”.

I don’t think so.

They would be better received than in Germany

RE: OT - Washington may change team name
As a lifelong Redskins fan and former season ticket holder, I'm terrified The Danny is going to botch this. There is zero rush to have a new name in place by the start of the season. It is much more important to get this right. There seems to be a sentiment that wants to shoehorn an R name in to keep HTTR alive. That is not a good enough reason. Warriors is fine but I don't think it distances the franchise enough from anything Native American related. I would much rather see the brain trust in Ashburnistan take a breath and do a full rebrand: name, colors, logo. You only have one chance to get this right. We don't need another Wizards in DC.

RE: OT - Washington may change team name
I disagree. I full rebrand of an iconic brand is not the best idea. They need to keep as many of the elements that make them identifiable as possible. You need to recognize them as the iconic brand they have always been, and make people forget you changed names. I would be concerned that your approach would make them feel like an expansion team, couple that with the fact that they consistently suck, and you basically have an expansion team.
