I understand that this thread is plagued with questionable sources and cherry picked information, but people should definitely stay away from peddling links from OANN (a network that openly presents conspiracy theories as factual information) that present this unpublished and not peer reviewed manuscript as a finished study that may mean something useful. It's crazy to have to point out something like this on a message board that is supposedly mostly made up of college graduates, but here we are.
Sorry. Thought was sharing info from UCLA and Stanford study.

Assume info from an "anonymous source" would be better.

Heard of younger fellow who contracted covid virus. The virus caused him heart problems. Died at age 43 of massive heart attack. Left wife and two kids. Stay safe.

RE: A thread to share positive news about Covid-19 Rx and vaccine developments
They had to pause the Oxford vaccine phase 3 trial because of a case of transverse myelitis in the vaccine arm of the trial. The Oxford vaccine uses a chimpanzee adenovirus as the vector that delivers the spike protein SARS CoV2 RNA. One of the causes of transverse myelitis can be a viral infection - here, ***possibly***, the chimpanzee virus. The *vaccine arm* of the trial has 15,000 volunteers and they need to find out why this happened before they move on - if they do.

So the Oxford vaccine trial resumes after being halted Sunday. So you have to assume the transverse myelitis was determined unrelated to the vaccine.

It looks like Pfizer will move the number in their phase 3 trial from the present 30000 to 44000 ---- to include a more at risk and diverse group. They must be feeling pretty good:-)

So now it causes heart attacks.

Add that to the list.

I signed up for the Moderna phase 3 trial but I can tell they're not going to call me based on the questionnaire I filled out. They're looking for people who through no fault of their own - or fault of their own - are the most likely to get infected.

An article from the American Heart Association regarding this. It's a real problem.

A thread to share positive news about Covid-19 Rx and vaccine developments
KELLER, Texas - There is progress toward a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Pfizer Phase 3 trial is now approved to include teenagers 16 and older. The trial has surpassed the 30,000 participants originally needed and now expanding to 44,000.

Ventavia Research Group is currently conducting COVID-19 vaccine trials in Houston, Fort Worth and Keller.

“We’ve been running clinical trials for 20 years, and this study is no different than any other studies we’ve run,” said Olivia Ray with the research group. “Nothing’s been rushed. We’re looking at the data just the same. We’re collecting the data just the same.”

The research group is looking for teen participants 16 and up over the next two weeks as the study continues to move forward and expand to include other age groups.

“The more volunteers we have, the faster we can collect this data and get it to market and hopefully get back to normal,” Ray said.

Good find. Here are less publicized but important results of Phase 2 from the news release::
Quote:Most study hospitalizations occurred in patients with underlying risk factors (age or BMI), suggesting a more pronounced treatment effect for patients in these higher-risk groups. Ongoing studies will seek to confirm this finding. Across all treatment groups (including placebo), no patients progressed to mechanical ventilation or died. Exploratory analyses indicated a more rapid improvement in symptoms for patients treated with LY-CoV555 versus placebo, supporting the hospitalization effect.

Four experimental coronavirus shots have now entered Phase 3 testing in the U.S."

The results should start rolling in early next year and emergency authorization for vaccinations shortly thereafter.

A genetic study of severely ill patients that may explain, at least in part, why men are more seriously affected and die with covid-19. A recessive gene on the X chromosome. Hence the outsized effect on males.

RE: A thread to share positive news about Covid-19 Rx and vaccine developments
Here is some good news.

From Dr. Marc Siegel, department head at NYU Langone Hospital, as reported on Fox tonight:

1. Per Oxford research, approximately 30% of Covid deaths weren't caused by Covid. It simply was present.

The remainder is from the latest CDC data:

2. Even now, 35-50% of all deaths are occurring in nursing homes, and a lot are preventable.

3. The survival rate for ages 0-19 is 99.997%.

4. Essentially, over the age of 70 is where patients are still dying. Still, the survival rate there is 94.5%.

5. The survival rate for ages 20-49 is 99.98%.

6. The survival rate for ages 50-69 is 99.5%.

7. If you have bacterial pneumonia, there is a 14% chance you will die, any age.

8. If you have ebola, there is a 50% chance you will die.

9. Viral meningitis has a higher death rate than Covid.

Yet we don't shut down for those diseases, or anything else that takes lives.

Survival rate is increasing due to effective treatments that have been found as we have moved through this, including remdesivir, dexamethazone, plasma, antibodies, etc.
