RE: Sports reimagined
I just want them to play the game and when the game is over, to talk about the game. Don't want to tune into sports or a sports related talk show and hear politics. Is it really too much to ask that we can enjoy a sporting competition and not talk politics? Frankly, if the media had any ounce of integrity, nobody would have noticed and this wouldn't ever have been an issue.

Let me be clear, while I don't support the individual protests, I am not going to stop donating because X player took a knee. I will stop donating when the school gets involved and paints "BLM" or some other left wing or Marxist slogan on helmets or the end zone.

But you are fine if they wear BLM shirts during warmups, do a circle of unity, and send our rainbow fireworks?

Does anyone actually think ODU is going to paint BLM in the endzone?

The University overtly supports social or political things all the time. So is it just BLM that ruffles your feathers?

Just things that fox news declares evil. Also not sure if you meant to respond to me, I'm fine with players expressing their beliefs on the field before games like they have been.

No sorry, not specifically to you. To the comment about painting the end zone with BLM. The Univ supports political and social causes overtly all the time, why is BLM any different?

"October 29: College football players join hands in ‘circle of unity’
University of Texas at El Paso: Before their homecoming match began, UTEP football players linked hands with their opponents, the Old Dominion Monarchs, and raised their joined fists upwards.

It’s not UTEP’s first time engaging in the gesture, which walks the line between respecting law enforcement and acknowledging police discrimination toward minorities . They’ve done it for a few weeks now, according to The Prospector, at the suggestion of their coach after several ODU players began wearing Black Lives Matter shirts in warm-ups."

I'm not trying to prove you guys wrong or anything. But in reality, if politics seeping into sports was really going to make you quit watching, then you should've been out 4 years ago. Point being, just watch the game. Maybe let the players express themselves how they'd like, and not let that get in your way of watching a game. Sure didn't get in the way 4 years ago, maybe because you didn't notice. Ignorance is bliss?

I didn’t forget about the circle of unity or what players might wear in their warmups. I am also not ignorant and understand that politics has crept it’s nasty head into our everyday lives. What I was thinking about is the possibility of our team disrespecting our flag and national anthem. I believe this is the greatest country in the world ( and yes, it can be better) but if kids playing basketball or football on scholarship choose to not honor our country then I am out.

Do you oppose the National Anthem being played before football games?

Of course not. The most recent poll I can find shows 82% support for The National Anthem. It is not a politically divisive issue among the mainstream, therefor it is not a political statement.

Playing the National Anthem prior to athletic events has not been ubiquitous in sports, up until WWII the national anthem was not performed at all, except at the Olympic Games.

Gotcha, so it has only been ubiquitous for 80 years.

Just sharing info...but playing the anthem is political, it just happens that most people agree with it. I personally think the national anthem should be reserved for special things of national significance. An ODU football game is not that.

Kneeling for the Anthem is not about the Flag or disrespect to the flag. And before you criticize me for not serving or something. I come from a military family and have a deep respect for those that serve our country and defend our freedoms...but these kids and anyone else in our country has the right to kneel, turn around backwards, or salute and stand at attention becasue my Father, my Grandfather, and my cousins, Uncles, Sister and others served. They defended the rights of all of us not just those that we agree with. I mean, most of the players, college, pro, and amateur alike, walk around and talk and don't even pay attention during the anthem. To me that is a greater disrespect than to kneel in quiet protest of social injustice. Just how I feel

This is how I feel as well. I think that the kneeling during the anthem being some disrespect towards the military is nonsense. It has nothing to do with the military.

Well it means different things to different people. I don't think it is a blatant disrespectful shot targeted at the military in particular, but disrespect for the philosophical basis of the founding of our country. My generation and earlier generations were brought up with the notion of the republic and the flag as being sacred. Just so happens the military also is brought up under this notion... but they certainly aren't the only ones that take exception. You can take your knee and nobody is advocating you be imprisoned for it, but and many are going to think less of you. It is what it is. I am open to hearing reasoning of why it isn't the case, but I haven't heard anything convincing and when someone like Kaepernick continues walking around in Che Guevara shirts and trashing our institutions, his argument that his "protest" is not anti-American becomes even less convincing. For all the gripes people have over past and even present perceived injustices, there has never been a more perfect union. The founders created multiple means for change that have been positively used throughout our history. Seems Kaepernick and others want to toss out the entire framework and replace it with Marxism, which makes no sense.

This is how I feel as well. I think that the kneeling during the anthem being some disrespect towards the military is nonsense. It has nothing to do with the military.

I couldn't disagree with this last statement more. Do me a favor and catch up on some of your history. Learn about the hell on earth the Marines endured in the South Pacific during WWII. Learn about the meat grinder that was Shiloh or The Wilderness in the Civil War. Learn about the sacrifices undertaken by our Revolutionary War soldiers. Learn about the courage it took to land on the beach at Normandy during D Day. These men fought and countless thousands died for our country, for the ideals upon which we were founded, to make the world a better place. The flag and the anthem are symbols of their sacrifice and should be accorded the appropriate respect.

You can say that kneeling during the anthem is not an affront to our military and our country, but I'll bet that you somehow believe that saying "All Lives Matter" is racist. You can't have selective hearing or perception and not expect others to have the same. It doesn't work that way.

This country isn't perfect, but it's the best one that's ever existed. People that say our country is an evil horrible place have never ventured outside of it. If it was so horrible, why would millions of people be trying to get in each year?

I'm proud to be an American and I thank God every day that I was born one. No other place on earth affords one the opportunities of America. No place. I've been to Europe, Africa, South America, the Caribbean and the Middle East. If you think things are bad here, you're naive at best or willfully ignorant.

I’m ready to talk golf whenever. Though I won’t go as far as Koepka, the transformation of DeChambeau has been remarkable to watch. And I’m still in disbelief he was able to gain that much size and swing speed without losing his touch or accuracy, especially with that goofy no-hinge swing.

We'll see if his body holds up, and more importantly, what happens when he starts spraying it. So far, they've played courses where he could basically bomb it past all significant trouble. But, to hit an 8-iron from 203 out....must be nice.

I still root for Tiger when he plays. Would be a helluva comeback story if he were to break Jack's record after all.

Yeah, his back is definitely going to protest that swing speed soon. Should be interesting to see how long it holds up.

Yeah, his back is definitely going to protest that swing speed soon. Should be interesting to see how long it holds up.

I am a culprit, but thanks for getting this back on sports.
