I think it's a fantastic athletic logo.
If we were to switch to Adidas, we might even get a better $ deal too :)

But they make the worst looking uniforms.

I was really hoping for more risks with our uniforms. That didn’t happen. And while they didnt change much from the first year, they did change. We started with the auburn stripes on the jerseys and they’re gone. Pretty plain uniform kit now. I would imagine we are due new ones with the contract restarting. But Ricky, staff and the equipment manager could like this look and keep it.

I still think a Faux-back could be cool. Only bust it out for VT or UVA games. Maybe use it as a basis for Color Vs Color.

If there is a desire to work in light blue, but still be different from UNC
I'm sure this won't be popular but some reference material to build off of:
Retro 3 stripe ODU logo

paired with a striped shoulder pattern

With some horizontal strips like Temple

Those are hideous, IMO. (Though, I really don't care much)

I love the white helmest with that shade of blue shirts and white pants. My favorite uniform combo of ours.

Ehhh yes Adidas has lots of bad uniforms out there to generate "Hype" but you can get a normal looking uniform from Adidas if you want to

Here is a quick mock up of your idea for a Fauxback

Cool, but I think vertical “3” stripe down the side of the pants, shoulder/sleeve of the shirt, and center of the helmet would better reflect the retro logo. I’m seeing too much Temple with the pants.

This is great! Thank you for mocking this up! I have no photo editing skills. Was about to ask somebody at work to mock something up.

I think this could be a neat old school type of uniform. At least a foundation for somebody else to refine later.

Instead of light blue on the shoulders, what if it was all dark blue and white?
Away could be white with the dark blue stripes to match the pants and helmet pattern.

Now that I see this, I thought of WWII bombers. I'm not mad at it.
Thanks again!
