I’d love to read up on how members of the Skyline and Border teamed up to build the WAC. Anyone know of any articles covering the subject? Weren’t there talks that they were trying to get Oregon, Oregon St, and Washington St if they didn’t get invited to the PAC 8?

Hopefully this is an accurate history. I was surprised to see that Washington St and Oregon St were talked about in the beginning stages.

The WAC was created in large part due to the advancement of transportation. Before the late 50s the primary mode of transportation was still by train so the previous conferences out west save for the PCC were aligned more by convenience than desire, once commercial air travel become more prevalent in society it allowed them a bit more freedom to choose and when they did they basically merged together the biggest universities and cities in the west (and Wyoming) that were available at the time. They would have gladly taken any/all of the Wash St & Oregon schools had they been interested but by this time the process had already been started for them all to reel back into the Pac8.

Its a bit of a long read but it does a good job covering the WAC

or for the tl;dr read crowd a basic timeline.
