Good thing we aren’t the Chicago huskies. Not even the Springfield huskies for that matter.

Fun fact - Toledo has a higher crime rate than Chicago.

That is a "fun" fact?

Please post your sources. I would be shocked if this is even remotely close to true.

That is really interesting to me. Most people think Chicago is not safe and is the murder capital of the country. DeKalb is a small town but, I have seen discussion on this board about the perception that parents/students dont think DeKalb is safe. Then getting back to Toledo, I dont recall ever seeing that kind of discussion about parents/students not thinking Toledo isnt safe. I guess its funny how the world views perception versus reality. I certainly perceived Toledo to be safer then Chicago. I am glad those corrupt politicians got arrested!

Chicago does have a higher violent crime rate. You know who is really bad? Kalamazoo. Their crime rate is 65/1,000! and they're violent crime rate is 25th worst in the country(Chicago is 64)

Mac crime rate:
1-Bowling Green 16/1000
2-Kent 16.1/1000
3-Mt.Pleasant 20/1000
4-Athens 23/1000
5-Oxford 28/1000
6-Dekalb 34/1000
7-Muncie 39/1000
8-Ypsilanti 43/1000
9-Akron 45/1000
10-Toledo 46/1000
11-Buffalo 50/1000
12 Kalamazoo 65/1000

If this helps your away game selection....

These rates-per-thousand are a statistical attempt to make a comparison out of something that doesn't have one. Population is the key factor in deriving these rates. Are you safer in Chicago than Toledo? No. The actual incidence/numbers of specific violent crimes are what matter.

(Per Boca Rocket:)
Homicides 2019:
Chicago 510 (thru 12/30/19)
Toledo 38

Duh ... 510 bodies is a lot more than 38.

You know how statistics work, right? 510 out of 2.7 million. 38 out of 270,000. That’s why you use a rate and not a total. It’s silly to even use a major city like Chicago. The towns the universities are in are much more similar than a major metropolitan city.

Yes I do, and that's why these pure per-thousand rates need definition. As you pointed out, the Toledo-Chicago rate comparison is "silly" without considering actual population. I was debating FBI crime statistics with some of the people who develop them 45 years ago, and won't get caught up in that again. Take a walk on the West Side or the South Side some night. Those are real people out there, not numbers.

BTW, took a walk on the Toldeo board and didn't see much of anything about this OP.

Stats are always just half a story. You just use them to whatever end they work for you. In this case it was just to tease the Toledo fans. I’d have zero concern being in Toledo. Now Kalamazoo on the other hand......

Ah! Oh! Ee! Oo! Ug! You got me. I'm hurt (but not in Toledo).

Actually, when I spent a week in Kalamazoo one day, I saw a shooting, a holdup, a clubbing, a beating, an explosion ... and then I turned off the Looney Tunes/Bugs Bunny Special on the motel TV and went out for lunch.

Seriously, tho, at age 68 I'd prefer a few more years of breathing these noxious fumes we call air, so I guess I just won't go to any of those places anyone has mentioned. I'll stay right here in my bunker and watch my collection of Huskies game videos.

The way things are going out there, that might be all we have this fall.

We can only hope St Pete...

Sadly, I’m not getting my hopes up as he’s been like Teflon getting any substantial charges to stick as slimy as he is.

Here’s hoping 04-cheers

Going to be tough for Madigan to survive, given that Comed paid a $200M fine and already pled guilty to paying him the bribe. Time is long past.
