Detroit Police Officer Drives Into Crowd After Protesters Surround Car, Video Shows
Quote:A Detroit police SUV drove into a crowd of protesters Sunday evening after they surrounded the car, according to video of the incident shared on Twitter.

The car briefly accelerated into the crowd of approximately 15 people before stopping, sending some protesters onto the ground and the hood of the car, the video showed. Once stopped, it accelerated with people still on its hood, according to the video posted to Twitter by activist Ethan Ketner.

Protesters can be heard screaming as they chase the car. The incident sent multiple protesters to the hospital, according to Ketner.

Jae Bass, who claims he was one of the protesters thrown from the car, said that he had originally stood in front of the police vehicle to separate the car from the other protesters.

“In response to that, he just floored it,” Bass told the Detroit Free Press.

“He went super fast. Me and a couple of other organizers that were with me, just went flinging off. We went flying off. He ran over a couple people’s arms, feet. He ran over her phone. I think I was the last person on the car. I was just holding onto the car. I could feel him speeding up and then he did one of these and he [flung] me off the car,” Bass said.

The Detroit Police Department did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request to comment, but Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the department would address the incident at a press conference Monday afternoon Facebook page.

The incident is not the first clash between demonstrators and police, as protests sparked by the death of George Floyd, who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes, have led to high tensions and violence in cities nationwide.

Moral of the story? Stop playing these stupid games of surrounding and attacking cars if you don’t want to be hit.

Got what they deserved, even if they wouldn't have hurt the cop their plan was to destroy the police car, that crap has to stop, the officer did the right thing.

Epic lesson on cause and effect.

Here's a clue to the activists. If you don't want to be thrown off, don't get on the car in the first place. Or stand in front of it.

You're not a victim, you're an idiot, a potential Darwin award winner.

Well, he floored it, went super fast and did one of those things. Obviously this mans father failed him as he has no concept as to how cars function or the relativity of speed.

Floored it - to rapidly press the accelerator pedal to the floor. If you do this in a 4,500 lb SUV then anyone in front of you is likely dead. So he didn't floor it.

Super fast - I believe most would consider 85-90 mph as the bare minimum to be considered super fast. To me it means anything over 110-115 for the average car. If he was going super fast there would be dead people.

One of those things - I assume he means abruptly turning the steering wheel to dislodge the hood ornament man. If you are "flooring it" and going "super fast" and abruptly turn the wheel of an SUV you are most likely going my to cause a rollover and dead people.

I'm very tired of betas.

Ironically, the cop was there to escort the protesters, according to what I had read in another account of the incident.

The police have been incredibly patient with these idiots.

Before long, they are going to push a group of police too far and there will be 10-20 dead rioters.

drove into? no, the car was stopped, the idiots surrounded it, and he cleared them.

multiple people going to the hospital? i'd love to see the injury reports... maybe some bruises.... idiots

I don't get it, I was just beating the ever living hell out of his car, telling him I was gonna kill him, and he ran me over.

Go after the cop.. You may win the "lawsuit", but I'm pretty sure blocking a road or emergency vehicles is a federal offense genius.

They smashed out the back window. That is why the cops left abruptly. Watch the video and you can see the broken window as they drive away. Too bad for the volunteer speedbumps. In Tennessee they can't sue if they get run over blocking the street.

Disappointed here...
Can’t believe we didn’t see more in the video. Not even a scrapped knee.
This police officer is a hero. Pave the road with them.

RE: Detroit Police Officer Drives Into Crowd After Protesters Surround Car, Video Shows
Locally people were up in arms a few weeks ago because "a truck drove into protesters" in midtown. Turns out, they were completely blocking a main road, and when he tried to go around them, they started trying to push his truck backwards (really?) and he hit the gas. They all flipped out and demanded he be arrested, and I think he was.

I'm so tired of these babies throwing a tantrum by blocking roadways or surrounding vehicles, and then demanding arrests when they get run over for being idiots.
No, your protest isn't "supposed to be inconvenient". It's illegal and obnoxious and isn't going to win a damn soul to your side and you know it.

I think blocking roadways should be illegal. You have ambulances trying to get to hospitals and other emergency needs, among other reasons.

At some point, somebody is going to have to call in the cavalry.

Memphis sure doesn’t know it, apparently. That’s their favorite “protest” tactic.

My understanding is that if they apply for a permit and inform the authorities that they plan to block the roadways, the city will allow it, but will re-direct traffic another way or they're supposed to re-direct traffic.
