Turner's pay model was a little ridiculous.

I have no idea why they bid on the tournament if they had no real intention of showing very many of the games. The only other thing on that network is reruns for heaven's sake.

I have no idea why they bid on the tournament if they had no real intention of showing very many of the games. The only other thing on that network is reruns for heaven's sake.

CBS' model for Champions League won't be much better. They will probably show the final (the only Champions League match played on a weekend) on CBS broadcast network while putting all other matches (ie weekday matches) on "CBS All Access", their subscription streaming service ($6/month with commercials or $10/month with no commercials). I suppose it's slightly better than Turner's model because a fan could just subscribe for the three months a year in which the knockout stages are played, and then cancel.

You'd think with a dearth of content on CBS Sports Network that they would at least show some games there, but you are probably right. Most of the good stuff will likely be on CBS All Access. Although, if they bundle everything together on that platform rather than just the tournament itself then that wouldn't be too bad.

Right, it's better for diehards than Turner because in a normal year, the knockout stage takes place from February-April and the final is on a Saturday in early May. Don't pay for the group stage, just pay $18 and get all 28 games in the knockout stage before the final. As a US fan you would want all games to be available to be replayed for several days after the game, so that you can watch in the evening after work. Presumably CBS All Access would have that.

I don't see much value for CBSSN in getting CL games because they're all on weekdays in the middle of the day. There's not much revenue to be made in selling advertising for those games on a cable or broadcast channel, which might be why Fox and then Turner were not interested in keeping CL for FS1 or TNT.
