Pelosi: Nationwide Mask Requirement Is ‘Long Overdue’
Given how ugly most Democrats are, maybe Nancy meant that it's long overdue for all Democrats to wear masks.

Quote:House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said a nationwide requirement to wear face masks is “long overdue” during a Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”

The wearing of face masks as an attempt to control the spread of coronavirus has become a hotly debated issue of late with Democrats tending to be in favor of mandatory masking and many Republicans taking the position that such a policy is an unenforceable governmental overreach.

Earlier this week, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said he would issue an executive order that would require all Americans to wear face masks.

“Is it time to mandate the wearing of masks across the country?” ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Pelosi.

“Oh, it’s definitely long overdue for that,” Pelosi responded. “And my understanding is that the Centers for Disease Control has recommended the use of masks but not required it because they don’t want offend the president.”

“The president should be an example,” she continued. “You know, real men wear masks. Be an example to the country and wear the mask, it’s not about protecting yourself it’s about protecting others and their families.”

Quote:Masks and respirators do not work.

There have been extensive randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies, and meta-analysis reviews of RCT studies, which all show that masks and respirators do not work to prevent respiratory influenza-like illnesses, or respiratory illnesses believed to be transmitted by droplets and aerosol particles.

Furthermore, the relevant known physics and biology, which I review, are such that masks and respirators should not work. It would be a paradox if masks and respirators worked, given what we know about viral respiratory diseases: The main transmission path is long-residence-time aerosol particles (< 2.5 μm), which are too fine to be blocked, and the minimum-infective dose is smaller than one aerosol particle.

The present paper about masks illustrates the degree to which governments, the mainstream media, and institutional propagandists can decide to operate in a science vacuum, or select only incomplete science that serves their interests. Such recklessness is also certainly the case with the current global lockdown of over 1 billion people, an unprecedented experiment in medical and political history.

Physics and Biology of Viral Respiratory Disease and of Why Masks Do Not Work
In order to understand why masks cannot possibly work, we must review established knowledge about viral respiratory diseases, the mechanism of seasonal variation of excess deaths from pneumonia and influenza, the aerosol mechanism of infectious disease transmission, the physics and chemistry of aerosols, and the mechanism of the so-called minimum-infective-dose.

Precautionary Principle Turned on Its Head with Masks
In light of the medical research, therefore, it is difficult to understand why public-health authorities are not consistently adamant about this established scientific result, since the distributed psychological, economic, and environmental harm from a broad recommendation to wear masks is significant, not to mention the unknown potential harm from concentration and distribution of pathogens on and from used masks. In this case, public authorities would be turning the precautionary principle on its head (see below).

In addition to pandemics that can occur anytime, in the temperate latitudes there is an extra burden of respiratory-disease mortality that is seasonal, and that is caused by viruses. For example, see the review of influenza by Paules and Subbarao (2017). This has been known for a long time, and the seasonal pattern is exceedingly regular. (Publisher's note: All links to source references to studies here forward are found at the end of this article.)

RE: Pelosi: Nationwide Mask Requirement Is ‘Long Overdue’
They claim to support science, but they won't study whether the protests they encouraged has lead to the recent spike in cases.

IF everyone had a N95 and IF everyone wore their mask properly and IF everyone social distanced it would make a difference.
But few have an N95 and the vast majority do not wear their masks properly, adjusting them, putting their hands all over it and their face and pulling it below their nose, ....; and a lot of people with masks totally ignore social distancing.

So I'm not sure a mask requirement wouldn't make the country LESS safe.

I know I feel a lot more comfortable with distance from an unmasked person than I do a masked person close by. And if they have distance I don't care if they have a mask.

The botox joker could have just stopped right here: "The wearing of face masks as an attempt to control" and saved us all a moment or two of hearing/reading her drivel.

Do I VOLUNTARILY wear one? Yes, yes I do. As a courtesy to others in case I'm somehow infected. Do I do so as some kind of governmental diktat? Not in my life nor my Mothers life.

If I can smell someone’s fart thru their jeans, that facial diaper doesn’t stand a chance at blocking coronavirus.

I'll say this.. We opened a septic system the other day and I had a mask on.. I didn't smell a thing..

Or it could be because I have the Wuhan Flu....07-coffee3

The "party of science" doesn't listen to science about masks.

Every peer-reviewed study I've read shows that cloth masks are ineffective at preventing disease spread.

N95 or better masks are effective at preventing disease spread. Unfortunately, unlike Asian countries, where N95 masks were commonly worn by the general public before 2020, we don't have nearly enough N95 masks for every citizen.

They just want Trump to wear one. Not because of Covid, but because you cannot unsee that visual.

You libs do what you want and we’ll do what we can want.

Pretty much my stance also. I carry one around with me if I get into a close quarters situation or it is required by the business. I had to have on one on for my dentist appt. Ive had to use it a 6 or 7 times. Most of the time Im able to stay more than 6 feet from people.

And it appears the "experts" deliberately lied about masks in the beginning to keep people from using up a limited supply.

Same here. If I'm in a Home Depot I can keep my distance. If I'm in a restaurant picking up food, a grocery store or an Ace Hardware, I wear it.

Small sample size, but of the handful of instances I’ve observed an apparent healthcare worker (wearing scrubs) at both Ace and the grocery - no mask. One appeared to be a doctor and had a mask hanging around his neck (possibly from his shift). This doesn’t get me all excited about getting on the mask train.

again, masks protect other people, not the wearer... and the healthcare worker is getting constantly tested/monitored... so you are at almost no risk from them... and anyone can own scrubs. If one of them wore their mask home from their shift, they're an idiot. They may however have grabbed a clean extra one on the way out.

As to Pelosi, how about she sponsor that legislation in the House and see what happens? That IS her job, after all... you know, to pass legislation?? They ***** their mouths off about EOs, and then insist on them when it might be problematic, even within their own party.

This is the problem with this sort of BS. Biden can say he'd do whatever he wants because he doesn't actually have to/get to do it. Pelosi can engage in sexism by saying Trump should model the idea that 'real men wear masks'.... ignoring the reality that we all know that if he did, the left would laugh at/belittle him for doing so. The idea that ANY of them would listen to a single word of advice that he ever gave is laughable. They can't create this situation where none of them follow anything he says or does and they laugh at those who do... then belittle him for not saying or doing things they think he should. They created the problem, not him.

If we were all engaging in all the OTHER things the President does (like having an in-house physician) then we could all go without masks like he does... Most of us recognize that him doing so would be laughable in its transparency. Yes, on a scale of 1-10, I'd put him wearing a mask as above the median at a 6, but I also put him not doing so as a 4. I listen to my doctor and experts in the field.... not people putting on acts.

Well maybe just desperate for a break. Ran into a neighbor whose husband is a surgeon. Says he has a continuous rash from wearing them all the time. He has the heavy duty one for surgery and a somewhat less annoying one for the rest of the time at work.

I suppose anyone can own scrubs, but I’m unaware of a fashion trend around here. That and my conclusion that they were healthcare workers wasn’t based solely on scrubs. The scrubs were what got my attention. My only point was that they didn’t appear to be pushing the local agenda that everyone should be masked.
