NBA goes open political
https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-p...er-report/

"As the result of an agreement between the NBA and National Basketball Players' Association, players participating in the upcoming season restart will be allowed to replace the last name on the back of their jerseys with a statement on social justice. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported this news late Saturday night.

Another report from Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times points out that this move is being done in conjunction with Nike, who serves as the athletic wear sponsor of the NBA...."

The question to ask each of those players is how they feel about the rights of residents of Hong Kong, Tibet and Uighurs.

As if it were even needed, yet another reason not to watch.

The NBA has been openly political for a few years.

I’d MUCH rather they do that than kneel during the national anthem. This has been my point about kneeling all along. These athletes in the NFL have had 3 years to come up with an alternative to Kap’s kneeling protest that they know offends many. The NFL is full of intelligent college educated men. No reason they can’t come up with a creative alternative to Kapernicks disrespectful and divisive method of protest. It took the NBA players just a few months to come up with an excellent alternative.

Great another one of these threads. It’s going to be 3 pages of some variation of “glad I stopped watching the NBA years ago”. Spoiler alert; the NBA doesn’t care that some old man in the sticks isn’t watching.

The NBA and ESPN must have went to political school together.

I have never liked the NBA and I've now determined that unless it's a live broadcast of a sporting event, ESPN is not worth watching.

Well its not like giving the middle finger to their country and most of their fans.

But I don't watch sports to see politics.

Agree. I'd prefer sports to be an escape from real life and politics. But---if you must protest---at least do so in a way that is not divisive and insulting to vets (as well as just plain ole' patriotic Americans). Just because Kap was the first, doesnt mean the rest of the NFL players have to follow the guy off the same cliff. There is no law that says Kap gets to decide how every NFL player protests. The fact the players want to continue that form of protest---knowing it is divisive--tells me they WANT it to be division and insulting to patriotic Americans. I know they say it has nothing to do with the flag---but if thats the case---then why choose that manner of protest? The fact they intend to stick with the same form despite having 3 years to come up with something different tells me they WANT to be insulting to the flag and anthem. They WANT to spit in the eye of veterans and patriotc Americans.

If the NFL was smart, they would simply cease starting games with the national anthem. That removes the big stage and would force the players to find another way to support thier cause. In the anthems place, I would have a short presentation to honor a random wounded vet at each game and award him a $100,000 check. Lots of wounded vets of color I suspect. I think the players and owners should contribute equally to the fund that would pay these $100K checks to wounded vets.

I didn't need but one and that one was a long time ago. I no longer watch the NFL or the NBA and only occasionally watch MLB.

If Americans want to stop this they need to quit patronizing it. Don't watch and don't buy anything associated with it and i6 will all go away and the bull**** attitudes will go away with it. What's more we'll quit making unusually wealthy and ignorant people who try to serve as spokespersons for the rest of us. And that goes for Hollywood as well. The only thing dumber than most jocks are actors. Due apologies to the few jocks and actors who actually did study and actually know some things. Here's to you Heddy Lamar! Brilliant and beautiful is a rare combination indeed!

Exactly! The NBA numbers have been tanking in recent years. It's not exactly the affluent crowd that drives advertisers and if not for outside money I wouldn't bet on it long term. NFL venues are still "be seen" places for key games.

Like so many things wrong with our country Corporate America uses these things to be seen and more importantly to shove their message down the viewers throats.

Failure to watch shoves that message down theirs in the only way it gets noticed, the pocket book.

I'm young & occasionally watch the NBA. If they're gonna wear 'f Trump' or the like on the back of their jerseys, I'm out.

Haven't watched it in years. To me it's as fixed as the WWF.

I watch sports for an escape from the constant political bombardment. If it crosses over to much then I am not watching any of it.
