Fall college sports
Will they happen? Clemson had 37 football players test positive, while Texas Tech had 23. Maybe getting it over with now is a good thing. But it is almost July. Morehouse College and other small schools have already cancelled their seasons. P5 schools can likely survive on TV money with no fans. Smaller schools can't. No way anywhere near full stadiums will be allowed with the pandemic getting worse, especially in college football hotbeds like Texas, Florida, and Alabama. With things getting worse, I am less optimistic about fall college sports than I have been at any time since this thing started.

With regard to college basketball, my wife won't attend games until there is a vaccine or a real treatment (i.e. not drinking Clorox). My wife won't let me go and risk bringing Covid home. So it comes down to my marriage vs. LR Basketball. After 40 years, my marriage will likely win out. That is if the games are actually played and fans are allowed to attend. It is still amazing to me that we have handled this worse than any country in the world.

Whoa!!! You “think” your marriage will win out? Man, you are a serious, serious fan! My guess, for football and basketball, is that somewhere in the 10-20% range of fan capacity will be the norm. So my friend, I think you may have hard choices looming ahead- IF the games are played at all! And like you, I am shocked that our country has become so dysfunctional that we have bungled handling this pandemic beyond belief!

May not have to worry about it. UALR may not have face-to-face classes in the fall. If there are no students on campus, then what?

And the decision to have classes or not will likely by a system-wide policy not just UALR policy.

Good question! If no face to face classes, I suspect no sports. But I bet there will be sports with limited or no fans, and limited face to face classes. But, the crystal ball is very, very clouded right now, and any guesses are just a crap shoot!

Reading that statement makes it sound like on-campus classes are unlikely and, if that's the case, there will be no sports as well. A month ago, I thought for sure it would be the northeastern schools who would cancel sports first. Now with the explosion of cases in the south and southwest, it looks like this part of the country is in most danger of no sports. In the end, it may well be a nationwide decision.

Ironically, the NBA will be opening up in the hottest hot spot in the country, the State of Florida.

True, but they have really created a bubble for themselves. So the NBA players might be the safest people in Florida!

I expect the NCAA will be involved, otherwise there will be some badly skewed advantages for some programs over others.

They had better be careful if they want college sports to be viable. What we have already had will be crippling. A full year gone might be fatal.

I am certainly worried about the future of college sports, specifically at a school like UALR. I was told a number of weeks ago that season ticket renewals would be going out "any day". The fact that nothing has been sent out suggests to me that the Athletic Department still has no clue what will happen with college basketball this season. Too bad they didn't do renewals at the last couple of game of the season, like they have done in the past. If they did that they would already have my money (and the money of many other season ticket holders). At this point, I have no clue what I will do if I get a renewal notice.

I already renewed my season tickets. If there is not a season, I’ll get my money back.

Same here with me. Oh, regarding fall sports ( soccer in particular), I did a sneak-a-peek at Monroe's website over the weekend. The soccer schedule indicated that the teams in the Western division (Louisiana, Monroe, Little Rock, A-State and Texas State) will play each other round-robin during conference play, as will those in the Eastern division due to covid-19. We'll find out as the season gets closer. This has been your Club 55 update.

I feel quite comfortable with social distancing at soccer games. I can bring my fold-up chair and set it down anywhere around the field. I'm not sure about indoor events at the moment.

RE: Fall college sports
My impression is that the top half of the power conferences have been champing at the bit for years to establish a Super Division, and Covid could very well allow them to do it. Then they could cull their bottom-feeders, chuck the NCAA and proceed with their project to make the college revenue sports professional.
