Boys...that horse is out of the barn and dead. The time to have a commissioner that understood TV revenue was 15 years ago, and we didn't have it. In all likelihood the next commissioner won't make a meaningful TV deal.

Don't get me wrong, you're going to want expertise in that area to deal with changing landscapes etc, but you can hire experts in associate commissioner roles, or keep consultants. Hiring a commissioner that swings his heaviest axe in the television space makes little sense when 95% of that juice has been squeezed.

To me, I'd be looking to hire a commissioner that would be most likely to increase the competitiveness of football, and maintain the competitiveness of basketball and other sports. You absolutely need a football hire. There won't be a major TV deal cut, so the best way forward for revenue is creating a can't miss product that increases engagement, donations, ticket sales, etc. That might allow the ACC Network to command higher carriage fees in future cable deals (which are long term as well), but also command high carriage fees on future platforms. It would also increase ad revenue on the ACC Network. It should make the ACC more attractive for bowl games.

It also would help to have someone highly respected and influential, especially given all the turnover among commissioners. You really want to make sure as the playoff contracts come back up, and new developments in the NCAA model and amateurism etc. You want someone that's going have some gravitas in those discussions and protect ACC interests.

Honestly, I'm no huge Swarbrick (or Notre Dame) fan, but he checks a lot of boxes other than his age.

Oliver Luck

There was a time I would have had him at the top of my list. Not so sure anymore.

I'm seeing some push for Mike Kelly - currently the AD at USF but previous experience on the CFP, SuperBowl, NCAA Final Four, even ACC HQ - and he's a Wake Forest alum. What about him? How's he doing at USF?

It'll be the typical #goacc move.

While he was in ACC HQ from 2006-2012 he was the senior associate commissioner in charge of football, broadcasting, and communications. Can you name any of the three areas where the ACC excelled while he was in charge?

Hell, ******* no.

Hmm, let's see worked for Swofford - no
Hmm, let's see another Winston-Salem/Greensboro/Piedmont guy - no

These trial balloon being floated in the media are designed to cause the media to coalesce around UNC/Duke/UVa first choice. Like the bleating narrative to add Connecticutt.

Based on the makeup of the executive committee, it has to be someone that Syracuse, Louisville, Clemson, and NC State can support. I can't see a UNC/Duke/UVa clone getting 10 votes.

It takes 10 votes to become commissioner.

I imagine ND gets a vote. The potential commish would also have to be supported by the Irish as well.

Oliver Luck makes too much sense so he won't be interviewed.

Oliver Luck is hated by Cuse fans. Not sure the incoming Chairman is all too thrilled either about him.

Goes back to the 8 year long NCAA investigation and how he had it in for the Cuse.

2/3 of 15 is 10

Yes ND has a vote.

I cast my vote for Jack Swarbrick. Don't mind if he's in his late 60s, if he can commish effectively for 5-10 years I'm ok with that. He seems very qualified and I think it's important to have someone with a fresh look outside of Tobacco road.

A couple things I hope he can improve on:
-enhance the profile of the ACC basketball tournament
-make better the football product
-negotiate better bowl tie ins
-improve the officiating (clean out the corruption)

Wasn't Luck the AD at West Virginia when they decided to go nuclear to get out of the OBE? That would be a huge red flag for me. On the plus side, the WV-to-ACC rumor mill would be in overdrive!

There is an SI article that mentions Boo Corrigan. I would say no to that as well. He's an insider and he's been at State a year and still says, "I'm still learning."

Radakovich is an intriguing option.

Yep. He is a red flag machine.

The more people stammer out "uhhhhh" when thinking of other ADs the more I want to reach outside of college sports entirely to pick up somebody from a pro sports league office in charge of media deals.

Gets my seal of approval.

I bet even Kaplony would go for that.

In what sense is Corrigan an insider. His daddy?

A year at NC State hardly makes you an ACC insider.

Not accomplished enough, and from what I've been told after allowing Fowler to run Furman football in the ground he was left out of the loop and just a rubber stamp for the Paladin Club when Clay Hendrix was hired.

He is a Notre Dame alum. He was Assoc AD at Notre Dame. Neither while they were in the ACC. He was Assoc AD at Duke. Is currently AD at NC State. He also worked in the athletic department at FSU.

Just because a guy has a 50 year association with the ACC, ND, Army, and Navy does not make him an "insider".

He was at UVa with his dad from 71-81
Then with his dad in South Bend from 81-87
Then his dad was in Greensboro at the ACC office 87-95
During which time he picked up a job at FSU 92-96
Then Navy from 01-04
Then ND from 04-08
Then Duke from 08-11
Then Army from 11-19
Now NC State from 19

I don't see how all of that qualifies as an insider. 03-lmfao
