JMU MBB paused workouts due to a positive and symptomatic Covid case (a player).

Wonder what the process is from here? Do they just need to test the others and get results. of does this shut things down for a week or two?

I think i read 2 weeks or something like until 10/25.

This part seems kind of confusing to me. I know NASCAR for example just need to get a negative test and you are good to go. I think it is similar for other professional sports. If they test negative I don't see the need for the full 2 weeks of isolation/quarantine. I am sure there is logic but it seems there is no consistent approach.

There are so many inconsistencies in what different sports, businesses, or doctors suggest/do. Kinda what will happen in this time of uncertainty.

With CFB it seems like if you are in contact tracing protocol its at least 10 days. Negative tests wont get you out of it.

OT but relevant I believe.

Sacramento State in the Big Sky has announced they are not participating in the spring 2021 season. Their 2020 season turns into a season cancellation. This is the first FCS school to completely cancel to my knowledge.

They finished 2019 ranked 9th/12th in both major polls.

Also UConn and NM State. So 4 D1 level programs are not having 2020 seasons so far. I'm sure that number will grow.

Sac St. hosted a playoff game and literally had maybe 100 people in the stands. It was raining that day but wasn’t cold. It was one game but I sure did not come away with feeling like they have much fan support. It was, after all, a playoff game.

It seems, relative to the amount of teams, NFL is having more cancellations than the FBS. The NFL mentioned "if necessary" they would add a week to the end of the season but that would be a last resort.

NCAA giving winter sports student-athletes an additional year of eligibility. That means if Matt Lewis gets a 5th year of eligibility and he chooses to play an additional year for the Dukes and stays healthy...he could obliterate the record book (with an asterisk beside it perhaps).

I assume rosters will be closer to possibly 17 scholarshipped S-A's in '21-'22. True freshmen hoping to start or play early may not like this news??? Zach Jacobs will get another year? Lots of question marks. Or, am I reading this incorrectly (which is possible I admit)?

I saw on twitter that 32 FBS and FCS games have been cancelled or postponed so far due to CoVID-19. This is of course meaning the schedules of teams that maintained new fall schedules and didn't postpone to the spring.

Then I saw another game get postponed today making that 33 since it came out after the tweet.

I'm not completely sure how many total scheduled fall games there are, but that seems like a decent amount.

Stephen F Austin's head coach is covid positive and in isolation and they literally appointed his father as the interim HC for this week's game. You can't make this stuff up.

the play rate for scheduled games is still over 80% with the 33 postponements you mentioned. We will see if that holds or declines with the spread of the Virus. Most programs have successfully navigated the pandemic.

Personally, I'm surprised more games haven't been postponed yet with college kids behaving irresponsibly and spreading the Virus due to intentional non-compliance with social distancing, mask wearing, etc. It could be football teams have been very good at isolating themselves and foregoing all other aspects of college life to guarantee they can play football. #HermitLife

Coach Cignetti was right.

Towson officially announces their 2020 football season is cancelled and will not be playing in the spring of 2021.

Ambrose is probably ticked. I doubt he wanted this. The decision probably came from the President's Office.

The CAA is going to fall apart. The reasons listed for not playing in the release are poor excuses. It's Spring ball with games after not playing in the fall. The athletes will be fine, though obviously serious injuries might not be back for fall 2021.

Weak.

Translation...TU has no chance of winning the league or really being any good after losing their three best players. Might as well punt the season and save your dollars. Their will be others who do the same. Maybe the CAA ends up with one division of schools willing to play. Rhode Island is likely the next to announce.

Weak.

Testing is getting cheaper and more efficient. Faster even. Vaccines are on the horizon.

MOST, not all, but most fall teams are doing fine without a vaccine. Approximately 35 postponements/cancellations nationwide so far. The lion share of games are still going on.

Imagine how much easier it'll be with more time and progress. The arguments against grow weaker over time.

Greg Madia
@Madia_DNRSports

Spoke to CAA commissioner Joe D'Antonio about Towson's decision to opt out of spring season.
-He said Towson's choice won't change the league's plan to proceed with 2 divisions/6-game slate.
-Also said he doesn't anticipate any other CAA members opting out "right now."

That sounds like the CAA Commissioner isn't aware of other schools considering not playing but that also doesn't sound 100% confident either.
