There has to be some idea of cause and effect in that all the rising numbers are occuring in southern states. A fairly contiguous grouping from Ark to Az.
It wouldn't surprise if a solution comes from someone investigating something entirely unrelated, as had happened so many times in history. Or they'll invent a new gatorade. Both will be good.
Or the virus mutates into a milder form. And of course the mortality rate is dropping.
If maintained trends both would be great, but also important to remember COVID-19 presents some serious short and long term health impacts even to those infected who are in great health, are not at high risk, and do not have preconditions and recover. It's not just of death to student athletes or those that they could infect but other serious personal health aspects associated with the virus.
Paul - your point of other effects of COVID-19 is spot on. So far, there is scare data on these effects. This info would put the threat of this pandemic into much greater focus.

Be hard to control for respiratory damage from being on a vent or behaviors like vaping in Millennials and Gen Z vs virus causality. Hard to believe if there are mild or no symptoms that any major damage would be observed. Also what is a younger persons' ability to heal from respiratory damage vs an older person.
I talked to respiratory therapist one time about the ability of the lungs to repair themselves. He said it
better in younger population. I'd be worried more about the damage from improper use of a vent.

Highest US new case count since the start of the pandemic being reported today. Hospitalizations are spiking in several states. May be a very rough summer.
