Jon Gilbert Still Confident That Season Opener Will Take Place
Interview with ECU AD Jon Gilbert on The Drive with Josh Graham

Link: Jon Gilbert Interview

Notes:
Marshall
-ECU, set to host Marshall Week 0, moved to Phase I Access one week early
-Said he's reasonably confident that the game will be played
-Believe we'll know in the next 2 weeks for sure

South Carolina
-Talked with Ray Tanner last week
-All indications that the game will be played
-Haven't discussed scenarios where the game won't be played
-Said it's important for SC game to happen to ensure that we get a return trip next year

-Thinks all conferences will have made a decision by end of July/Aug 1 "Drop Dead Date". Said this multiple times

Fall vs Spring:
-From an economic perspective, playing without fans is more of a financial hit because you still have all the expense of putting on a game/travelling without the revenue. At least, with no games, you don't incur the expense. Despite that, isn't an advocate for Spring football.
Reasons:
-How will the networks handle it? Competing inventory at same time
-We do ~230 events per year, mostly on weekends. Difficult do condense all those events into a single season
-Safety concerns with playing Spring football, then turning around and playing Fall ball right after
-No guarantee that Spring, during flu season, will be safer
