After the MEAC meetings this week it has been rumored that Bethune-Cookman officials met today to consider a move to the SWAC.

If such a move were to happen, I wonder which team would be bumped over to the West Division. Alcorn State is technically the farthest west.

Probably Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State

Well, only one team would need to move to the west. If two moved, one in the west would have to go east.

I bet South Carolina State might be talking to the ASUN or Big South to join. Everybody is jumping off the sinking ship of the MEAC.

This would be surprising. FAMU lifts the conference in fan support/academics and barely fits the footprint. Bethune-Cookman is limping financially and 4 hours the wrong direction of FAMU. SWAC would be throwing B-C a buoy with an invite.

While it spreads the footprint would a extra game in Florida help recruiting or potentially boost tv viewership by adding more Florida viewer's? Honestly there's no clear cut HBCU to invite. B-C might make the best team available. Would the boost in revenue help the school in anyway?

There’s a sampling of HBCU students/recent grads tweeting about this but it’s unclear where they’re getting their information from. It’s not on the active HBCU sports forum. Looks like it’s coming from a Facebook group.

Why would the SWAC want Bethune Cookman?

Just joined the SWAC Sports Central facebook group and it’s lit in there. Hundreds of comments. Sounds like they have all the tea.

Maybe the SWAC should just cherry-pick the MEAC and become an HBCU super conference.

Yeah, this would be a really weird move for the SWAC. As other posters mentioned, they don’t bring much and extend the footprint. For Bethune it’s a no-brainer. Their arch rival just left for the SWAC and they’re in a conference that’s collapsing.

I doubt they join the ASUN.

There’s even a post in the group taking screenshots of this thread to discuss what we’re saying. Wow! This FB group is a treasure trove!

I would hope they're not taking anyone here as an authoritative source...

TSU wasn't even asked.

The SWAC is done for now. B-C rumor is just that. Would not read a thing into it, especially when Facebook is the source.

As a longtime SWAC fan, I'm mystified by that as well.

Gets them to the beach? Gets them into the Orlando/Daytona Beach TV market?
