I guess that’s why they hired Larry Porter?

NO boards such as this one and a very vocal minority was the season for hiring Porter.

The push to hire a former Tiger player was the main reason behind the hiring of Porter.

The decision was made before the job came open to go after Porter.

True point. I remember it as clear as day. I wasn't following Memphis football back in Porter's playing days, so the first I heard of him was from the continuous lobbying on this board. I got the sense that people felt he, being an alum, would be loyal to the program and not get poached.

Well, he did not get poached. He got ROASTED!

In hindsight, I feel sorry for Larry. He had no coaching leadership experience, other than being a RB coach & stud recruiter; and was handed a program void of talent. I believe he did a good job of bringing in some players, but had zero management skills. Some can be successful in one of those situations, but no one can win without either.

Lots of blame to go around. RCJ put someone in a job they weren’t ready for (can’t blame Larry for taking it). It’s no coincidence RCJ “retired” immediately after Porter was fired.
