Crazy idea... Could the NCAA play games every other week or games every 3 weeks? Gives the players and staff time to get tested and some time for players and staff who were previously ill time to recover before the next game. Start September and run the season until March with games spaced out.

If they played a game every 3 weeks a healthy player that became ill could only have to miss 2 or 3 games (6 to 12 weeks) before they could return maybe.

Night games in February, sounds a little chilly. Guess it's good they are thinking football.

TRUE... but what about them January and February days that it's 70 and sunny!?!? COGS

My prediction, based on nothing but an opinion. A shortened season starting in late September and going into November. Conference games only. Wake and UVa will not be coming here. Bowl games? FBS playoffs, who knows?

RE: Are You Ready For Some Football?
Obviously there's so many moving parts w/r/t college football schedules that it's borderline irresponsible to even post fantasy conjecture, buuuuuuuuut ...

Lafayette just announced that it's cancelling its game at Navy scheduled for Sept. 12. Navy needs an opponent, but pretty much everyone in FBS and FCS is already playing on that date. Navy's only other off week is Oct. 10. ODU's off week ... is Oct. 10.

Of course, ODU already has 12 games scheduled, so they'd have to cancel/postpone one of them. UVa. and Wake are nonstarters. UConn would be complicated considering it's part of a three-team contract trade with UNC. That leaves Hampton a game scheduled for ... Sept. 12.

Navy rarely has openings on their OOC because three of the four dates are filled forever and ever. It would take some machinations (maybe paying Hampton and just not playing the game), and it assumes that the season isn't totally reconfigured or outright cancelled. but there's an opportunity here, I think.

It would be fantastic to play Navy.

But.......

I do think thats bad business even if paying them. Especially with this short notice. Im kind of an honor my word kinda dude.

We might need that Hampton win to go bowling.....

Hampton will flip if we gave them a sweetheart deal with basketball. Let the AD know about this! COGS

I think a home-and-home or 2-and-1 in basketball would be reasonable compensation for pushing the football game to 2021, when ODU still needs an FCS opponent and Hampton, as far as I can tell, has no FBS games scheduled.

Hampton announced all classes this fall will be on line, so that opens the possibility they will not play fb this fall.

I’ll be brutally honest. I know you all don’t want to hear or accept this but I’ve decided to make other plans for Saturday’s. There’s no way we play and there’s no way there are games for me to cover

It's entirely possible, even probable, that you're right, but until the powers that be stop trying to make something out of that, I'm going to keep just that little smidgen of hope alive. Even if they all spend the entire season living in and playing at the Cowboys practice facility.

Speaking of that. Judy (CUSA Comish) should be earning her keep right now, trying to get more TV dollars out of someone. Especially if they are going to play all the games in one locale like the NBA. We need to replace the ticket revenue with some TV revenue. And I am not paying for the crapppy CUSA Live streaming feed.

Our tickets sales, which leads or is 2nd in the conference, runs around $4mil. That would be a very strong media contract. The longer we go with the trend going up, the less hopeful I'm becoming.

I wouldn't say 'no way'. A 1% chance is still a chance. That said, my hopes fade some with each passing week. I can't imagine any conference will proceed w/o testing for both teams, and the way things are going in any number of states that won't bode well.

Obviously there was no way to know this was coming, but it sure would have been nice to have that money back we paid to rush through the stadium being built. Brand new place and we cut quite a few corners to make it ready for our worst season ever and a likely canceled season. ODU has the worst luck most of the time.

P5 schools will likely cancel G5 and FCS games unless those teams can prove they do the same level of testing.

If they won’t reschedule, it would be worth it for ODU to test enough to get the WF and UVA games. Guaranteed sellouts:

Respectfully, this is short sighted. I doubt they are/will be sold out if the current situation with COVID continues. It would be fiscally and socially irresponsible for ODU to play two football games if the ticket revenue and health safety isn't there. If they play games, I am more and more convinced it will be to an empty stadium. Maybe family only or something like that.

If ODU plays to empty stadiums I can’t see the season happening at all. It’s not like media dollars make it viable. We lose money even with full stadiums with CUSA travel. I can’t see us spending the money flying everywhere and not getting ticket revenue. Maybe it is best if we just push the entire season to spring or next year. But push the entire FBS’s seasons back a year so we play this season next year.

I'm totally on board with pushing the season back to the spring or 2021. Playing a closed-door season would suck. Potentially having home games with Wake and uva canceled is a very real possibility currently that I'm really not thrilled about.

It is almost certain the football season will be moved to Spring:

Key quote:

"My suspicion is that the majority of presidents in the FBS are uncomfortable with the notion of playing football this fall but for various reasons don’t want to be the first to step out and say that,” the Power 5 administrator told The Athletic. “So, more than anything else, that decision provides the cover they need. I expect it’ll be a big domino.”
