RE: Transfer portal
Here's the only time I met Gruehls. We got together because GTS was passing through. I think you can figure out who GTS is.

If I remember correctly Gruehls picked up the check when I wasn't paying attention (Q has a tendency to do that as well).

Subflea joined us. I'm there about 30 pounds ago. A few others who can claim themselves if they want.

Transfer portal
Thanks for sharing.

I’ve been on the forums since 2004 back in the days of Bearcat News. Anyone remember when UK Ken would poke his head in to troll about?
I started following the cars when I attended UC Law from 94-97. I didn’t know how good I had it, as a fan, when I first started following the cats. So much optimism after their final four run in 92.

I’m hoping we can get back to the days of Conference USA dominance and maybe some tournament success. I do worry about our ability to get the talent needed to regularly compete in the tournament. No ill will towards Mick as it was bittersweet to see what he could do with a higher level of talent. I’m pulling for Wes as I believe we all are.

Go Cats!

And it wasn’t always Bearcat Banter, there was a name change several years ago, I don’t remember what it used to be called. I used to post over on ESPN message boards until they killed that feature then came over here. Subflea used to post over there and marucscan as well.

Mods is it possible to split this thread?

Now that the Staff is (mostly) in place, I was hoping to hear something soon that they landed some more quality (impact) guys. Or maybe even a "huge get".

It would be nice if the Transfer Portal was like the NBA draft deadline. You only have a certain amount of time, then you have to pull your name back out, and return to your school. 03-lmfao

This guy would fit more into the "quality/impact" category than "huge get," but he's a guy we were involved with last year when he transferred from WMU, and he just entered the transfer portal after a solid season in the Big Ten: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket...on-johnson

6'8" 220-lb. power forward who will be a 5th-year senior. Averaged about 9 points and 6 boards while starting 24 games for Minnesota. He's going through the NBA draft process, but seems like he plans to return to college based on his decision to enter the portal yesterday.

RE: Transfer portal
Checked a Minnesota message board and the consensus seems to be they're bummed about Johnson potentially leaving, but it sounds like he has also left the door open to returning. I'm always interested in a fan base's reaction when a guy announces his transfer, as you learn some stuff about the player you wouldn't know from watching highlight videos. Sounds like he's a good defender, hustles, and can occasionally hit the 3 (although he's streaky/not a high percentage shooter). Kind of like a poor man's Tre Scott. Although, when you look at the leap Tre Scott took from year 4 to year 5, who's to say Johnson couldn't have a similar impact here in his 5th year? At this point, I'd gladly take the 4th-year/redshirt junior version of Tre Scott. Don't know if the current staff is recruiting him though.

Coaches can’t see any of these guys in person until July so it’s pretty much a dead period unless there’s a kid out there you had a past relationship with or a kid that really wants to come to your school. You’re just not going to hear much more for a while.

those were good years. I remember when JAX BEARCAT was going to be away for a few weeks and he asked me to fill in as a moderator. That was when WVU was trying to convince Bob Huggins to leave cincy. They were taunting UC, thinking he was going to move to WVU the first time. I went into their web site and copied all the IP addresses and banned them from the bearcat website. They were crying that they were banned before they had even joined with us. HAHA. Those were the days.]

High level rebounder. Reasonably efficient scorer. Did this playing 50% of the minutes. He'd be a nice add for splitting time with Koval next season (assuming Koval gets the waiver).

I know it's a lot to ask, but they need a go to big time scorer.

Slazinski came in for Williamson, buried a huge momentum shifting three from the corner, called Isaiah Jackson a “fuckboi,” got Jackson so mad that he demanded the ball on the next possession, goaded Jackson into an obvious charge, and then pointed at his head after both players fell to the court and the whistle was blown.

What’s not to like about that?

Thats the most JP Macura level story I've ever heard...only thing thats missing is him losing his pants and flashing the entire arena.
