Iwould venture to say this is odu's biggest rival, sorry W&M.If you ever have been to any odu-vcu event, you can feel the hate LOL.I would like to say this is as big as any rivalry in basketball, just maybe on a smaller level, but the hatred is just as big.always a great game and if not sold out, pretty darn close. They should play twice a year.Tell me your odu-vcu moment and what it means when we kill their dreams LOL!

RE: vcu
Whatever year we lost in the CAA tournament to the Barrea-led Northeastern team (2006?). I was unable to get enough tickets in the ODU section for the entire set we brought up, so my son and I sat in the upper level. Sometime during the game, my wife called me down because a handful of VCU-clad fans (these were 30-somethings, not students) were congregating in the alcove behind the ODU section and harrassing our fans. The Brown Turd ushers were doing nothing about it until me and several others physically took up a standing position in front of them and started backing them out. Only then did the ushers say that we all had to leave the area.

A bunch of undeserving, entitled *******. That's what I think of VCU.

Are they our rivals anymore? I actually don't much care what happens to them.

With all the pictures circulating in the interwebs of the damaged and boarded up business in the heart of the vcu "campus" due to the blm "protests", we should have some good stuff for future trash talk about who's campus is safer...

RE: vcu
I've wondered if the current VCU and ODU students still consider the rivalry as big a deal as alumni who were students when both were in the CAA. VCU probably considers GMU, GWU and some other A10 schools bigger games than ODU. The rivalry may mean more to ODU, since ODU has yet to establish a rival within CUSA.

If you're looking for documentation, try using the wayback machine to go see the caazone in its prime. Plenty of interesting characters and stories. It was a very entertaining time to be a lurker.

The hatred is most definitely still there and will never go away (thankfully). ODU/vcu are like peas and carrots...or Hatfield and McCoy.

Can I join in the hate for VCU? 1999, senior in high school. My city (Roanoke) joined both high school strings programs due to it was only 5 members in my high school. We are sitting in the VCU rehearsal room, between the 2 schools, I was the only black kid. The professor actually says to us, "Richmond wouldn't be a bad city if they removed the projects." I wanted to throw my violin and walk out so bad and I have hated that place every since.

All are welcome to join the vcu hate. Thank you for the story. That professor should be ashamed.

Welcome booman. Always nice to have people join in the VCU hate.

I love beating VCU. All ODU coaches should be evaluated based on this metric exclusively (other than football).

I cannot speak for coaches and players and older fans, but as a parent of one recent VCU grad, and one current student at VCU, they have moved on.
When they talk basketball rivalries and important games, they talk about UR, GMU, and Dayton.
To the younger generations of VCU, ODU is almost an afterthought.

Agreed, the VCU rivalry is dead and should be. Both teams have moved on.

The last vcu game at the Ted was anything but an afterthought. Sorry your kids don’t get it. Guess you didn’t raise them right.

Only old guys will remember this, but back in the WTKR Seagull days ODU was playing the rams one year and the Seagull strapped a large vacuum cleaner on his back and had Feces U written on it and he was walking around acting like he was sucking up all the Richmond fans. Funny as heck to us older fans. but not very funny to the Richmond crowd. I will never forget that and all the Seagulls stunts. He always did push the envelope.
