Going division-less allows that. Otherwise, the zipper is fine.

As far as Miami-Syracuse every year. That would work fine. The way I see it, BC, SU, and Pitt all want Miami every season. Miami wants FSU every season and possibly Georgia Tech (not sure). This is where it comes down to each school ranking their top five and seeing who wants Miami most. It wouldn’t surprise me if Miami ended up being Pitt’s number one choice. Which alumni base will help fill up Miami’s stadium?

Some rotation of Miami-BC-SU-Pitt would work very well for Rivalry Week. I believe the Big Ten does this with Maryland-Rutgers-Penn St.-MSU.

In a realignment that puts the old Big East teams in the same division, you could have an annually rotating set of rivalry week matchups between BC, Miami, Pitt, and Syracuse.

Year 1: BC/Miami + Pitt/Syracuse
Year 2: BC/Pitt + Miami/Syracuse
Year 3: BC/Syracuse + Miami/Pitt

My math error it is 124 for UVa and UNC

Esayem, no, I am talking Auburn, GT, Georgia, and Tennessee.

By the time GT, FSU, Miami, Louisville and other joined, we had airplanes for team travel.

Up until the 1960's trains were used for football team travel if it were longer than a bus ride and the current interstate system does not necessarily match the old rail routes.

This map explains the Southern Conference as it was conceived in 1921 - and this is just the Southern Railroad - Chattanooga had another terminal.

Interestingly the "Southern Crescent" still stops in Clemson, SC before pulling into Atlanta.

Yes, so long as that's still the rail corridor being used, college town stations tend to hold onto their Amtrak stops better than many.

Never mind Clemson, SC, the other Northeast Ohio stop for the DC to Chicago service through Pittsburgh and Cleveland is in Alliance, pop. 22,000, home of tiny Mount Union, home to 2,100ish undergrads and about 200 graduate students.

The Northeast Regional line always stops dead-ass in the middle of sleepy little Ashland, Va., home to Division 3 Randolph-Macon, but it was a railroad town anyway so even if R-MC closed it would probably still be a frequent stop.

Here are ACC schools superimposed over AmTrak lines - from "ACC Factoid - Trains (AmTrak)" (2012, so it still shows Maryland):

see also "ACC FB by Train" which shows where train stations sit in relation to campuses.

I have taken the Southern Crecent to several Georgia Tech games.
Leaves Greensboro at midnight and arrives in Atlanta at 8 AM. before traveling on to New Orleans.
The on the return trip back to New York the Crescent pulls into Atlanta at about 8 for the return trip.
A long day........works best for noon games.
