Anyone else feel like this season is about to go in the crapper with all the COVID issues?

Over a four day period, including tomorrow, these games were cancelled:
NMSU at Santa Clara
NMSU @ Sal Poly SLO
UC Davis @ Cal Baptist
Tarleton @ Gonzaga

As of right now, NMSU has Arizona, then nothing until 8 January, the WAC Opener. I am sure some other games will materialize, but wow!

Was the NMSU "COVID issue" on the Aggie side, or was it their opponent(s)?

According to reports it was one of our players. (NMSU)

Gotcha. Hope he (and anyone else) comes out healthy on the other side.

Without a true home court where NMSU can control their covid bubble, it is be difficult for the Aggie team to live out of a suitcase and travel to places where they have to rely on others to maintain the covid restrictions (from the supporting game staffs). The Aggie players (like others) are at odds with the outside world every time they travel. I think Rick Pitino is right. In order to get in a full season with all the stoppages, the NCAA tournament should be moved to May. By that time hopefully the vaccination will kick in to help reduce the covid spread.

You are making some big assumptions. I have a couple myself. I think the AZ Grand bubble is much more secure than if the team were still in LC (family, friends, girlfriends, wives, etc.). I am also not convinced the player got covid from one of the teams they played. What is that based on? Did any of those teams/staffs have positive tests?

I'm not talking about the AZ Grand per se'. I'm talking more about the fact that NMSU doesn't have any true home games where they can simply walk to their facilities to practice and "play" actual games. Every game currently is virtually a road game where Moccia, Jans, NMSU, etc. do not oversee all the support staff that prepare the game environment. Every game is a van, bus, airplane trip away on someone else's court.

I will say this about Arizona Grand their covid "check" for the AAU teams staying and playing there this weekend were suboptimal.

The positive covid test could have been a false positive. It happened to UTEP football last week.

It's almost like there is STILL a global pandemic happening, but they tried to make basketball happen anyway. Weird.

Not only is COVID still happening, it has increased its spread. It is not likely to abate very much for at least two to three months.

Just hope all the teams and fans won’t fly out to Vegas only to have the league call off the tournament at the end of the first day. That was some March madness in the worst possible way.

Last March, we had no "rapid" testing and no known therapeutics that could mitigates the virus' effects. Heck we didn't even know the full effect the virus had on our bodies back then; believing it was only a respiratory virus. The unknown shutdown last year's WAC and NCAA tournament. This season, I think people have reconciled that this virus will be among us through next year. And I guess sports is okay with it. We have rapid testing (sort of) and we have therapeutics (sort of). The problem is the spread is so severe now, it is overwhelming out medical system. People are now dying because there are not enough beds, nurses, and doctors to treat the infected. Games keep getting cancelled or postponed because of positive test results. I wonder if at some point college basketball shut it down (momentarily) and wait out the virus for a month or two?
