Whose going to take that invite? No one currently in D1. The ASUN has been trying to recruit D2 schools in the southeast for a couple years now and only found one taker.

Unless Mt St Mary’s or UMBC wants to join a super shaky bus league and leave their current homes that consist of similar institutions there’s not many fish in the lake to hook.

The only benefit the MEAC has over the ASUN is that football is under the same roof and they don't have to work with the Big South in hopes of a football invite.

The MEAC also fits a different geography. Sure, they would likely take anyone nearby but they are more of a Mid-Atlantic league while Atlantic Sun is a Southeast league.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the MEAC float a Midwest feel to go along with the Mid-Atlantic.

RE: MEAC's Next Move To Expand
I was searching for MEAC discussion and stumbled onto another thread about DavidSt.
https://www.d2football.com/forum/forum/f...meac/page2

That makes 4 boards (MWC, MVC, HL, D2) who’ve discussed DavidSt that he’s not even a member of. He’s an urban legend across the internet.

Yes, that's already taken on board in the other MEAC discussion.

There was never really a "let's add Chicago State to save the MEAC baseball autobid" option, the shift into a bus league and the cost savings that might allows some of the financially struggling MEAC schools to hold on goes directly counter to flying your baseball team to Chicago.

Chicago St internally studied adding football. Because they knew their sports offering wasn't extensive enough.

They were looking at non-scholarship Pioneer football. And it was to try and boost attendance. Only 400 male undergraduates at CSU, and half of them are on sports teams. The idea died when it became clear that nobody was going to "buy" their spot on a team at Chicago State. Only boys who got scholarship would come or those who live in the area and receive state financial aid packages (over 95% of tuition paid at CSU is from state aid ... nobody pays out of their own pocket to go there).

Pioneer football of pay to play white suburban kids was a non starter for a South Chicago commuter school. But even if you could pull it off, it would not help the MEAC.

Going to guess Virginia St has no interest because calling them up ASAP would be a no-brainer.

We have no idea what conversations are going on behind the scenes ... if they were to decide to try to move up, it would make sense to get their ducks in a row before taking it to their BoT.

Virginia State told the MEAC to kick rocks a few months back. But with FAMU and now BCU out that helps travel tremendously.

And the rumor of South Carolina State going to the Big South it help as well. You get a tighter footprint.

I think Virginia State would be asking other ADs and Presidents around the MEAC whether they will be staying. No use jumping on a sinking ship.

Kinda what I was thinking. D1 is a big commitment and if the MEAC ends up falling apart anyway with them having nowhere to go, is it worth it? If they want D1 they should also at least kick the tires on the Big South and ASUN, both of whom would offer more stable homes, and possibly a landing place if they decide to join the MEAC and it dies.

What would be the point? The remaining MEAC schools would lose their autobid and have to share the WAC's, plus add crippling travel distances to their financial woes. Better off dropping to DII. The WAC certainly doesn't benefit either. They're actually more stable than another DI conference right now.
