Monday Musings
As Michigan begins to open all bars and restaurants and college football players return to campus we try to get back to a "new normal"
My biggest thought lately has been with college baseball if there is ever a time to stop the large scale travel it is now. I think the mid west (if not big ten then MAC and smaller D1s) should consider going on their own with wooden bats and in a season that plays in more favorable mid west weather conditions. With the dismantling of the minor leagues now may be the time to think about this.
The positives saving money, and making money
The negatives not competing for the national title.

Football is king and driving people back to colleges. Hope everyone can stay safe. Depth may be a big issue for many teams this fall. Integrity of training staffs and coaching staffs will have a microscope on them. It will be different and I hope it is a decent product.

Stay safe everyone and shop local.

Yes, baseball, both MLB, MiLB and maybe college are going through some change. We'll see how it plays out.

Big changes are needed in college baseball.

As far as college FB, it will be crazy if a team has say a number of players suddenly show up inactive for a game because of the virus.

This is O/T but interesting. This H.S. phenom (a year behind Bates) is talking about considering HBCU schools. Who knows how he'll feel in two years (including going directly to the NBA) but if he would go to a school like Howard maybe it becomes a game changer for that school. Howard is an excellent academic school with sub-par athletics. The school needs something big to get on the athletic map.

I still wonder why we haven't seen more 'package deals' like we did with the Fab Five???

They 'missed' a golden opportunity when D.C. government opted to put the new practice facility for the Wizards and WNBA Mystics in South East D.C., instead of very close to the Howard campus. A beautiful state of the art 4K arena just might have helped that school.

P.S. Bates would be a 'game changer' for us. We all know that... 03-cloud9

Don't ask what brought this to my mind, but what happened to declaring cheer leading a 'sport?'

The big reason, I believe, it was brought up, I think was to count women cheerleaders as athletes for Title IX consideration.

I would give out partial athletic scholarships and count them for gender equity.

Make sense?

So what is happening in 2021?

The context is that C.C. is talking about the 2021 team hence, as we all guessed, it was recruiting.

C.C. really tossed a big curve ball by making it appear it was something which our AD would announce at a press conference.

I fought this guy getting into the starting line-up from day one. Matching slow footed JT4 and Elijah Minnie on the wings of the 2-3 zone and clogging the middle of our offense with two post players was an absolute disaster! The preseason MAC West team had a horrible season as a result.

Last season, however, totally changed my mind about Boubacar's value. Oh my goodness, Toure has far more pro potential than JT4. He has a better mental disposition, has far better hand strength and I simply cannot believe how high he gets that frame above the floor. He is not a NBA player but mark my words, he will go further than Thompson overseas.
