Yeah, the Ivy, Pioneer, and even Patriot, though they offer scholarships (they just seem to overthink the academic index thing)...I don’t see how they couldn’t play more D3 teams. I’m sure some of them wish they could play more of those teams.

Part of me wonders if the scalability of Patsy’s scholarship limits wasn’t call for certain schools in D3 to give the conference a ring. But good luck getting a UAA school. Hopkins, otoh...

They’ve won 3 Big Ten titles since 1995...none coached by Pat Fitzgerald.

Northwestern won more games than Michigan over an 11-year stretch (2008-2018).

If Northwestern didn’t exist, the Big Ten wouldn’t have a school within 120 miles of the epicenter of its conference and capital of its region. That’s like the PAC not having a team in LA.

I'm not saying NU doesn't punch above their weight, but an elite private school in the third largest metro in the US sticks out against a bunch of public flagship often in college towns like a sore thumb.

If NU deemphasized athletics with UC in the forties no one would notice a significant difference today. Chicago would still be the alumni epicenter for most in the conference, it wouldn't be the Pac without LA and more like the SEC without having an Atlanta team.

LaSalle jumped from the MAAC when they had a great run. It's clear that run was a fluke and not the beginning of an upward trend. They should go back to the MAAC.
Fordham is completely overmatched in the A-10. They were once in the Patriot League. I have no idea why they left. They should try to go back.

I guess irrelevant is fine, not like winning less than 10 games though. Outside of VCU and Dayton who hasn't been irrelevant most of the te in the A10, I don't see the CAA as a better fit though. If we're gonna go to a 1 bid league it might as well be the NEC, MAAC or America East.

Yeah it's far, but Boulder has way more in common with the culture of Seattle and LA compared to Manhattan and Lubbock. And given how it's not like Ames or Austin were a quick drive for them before, geography in the Big 12 wasn't a great reason to stay. The best case was their Big 8 legacy, but with how down their football has gone downhill since the 80s and 90s that's much less relevant.

Also why Texas makes more sense in the Pac than the SEC.
