$2.55m for David Beaty
KU effectively folds and pays Beaty almost all of what he claims he was owed, in the process spending more on legal fees and other expenses then if they had just respected his contract.

Comes at the same time KU has announced a 26% cut to its overall budget for the upcoming year.

I wonder how they can afford Les Miles after making two bad coaching hires ?

Beaty was dirt cheap. He was paid on the same scale as what XII coordinators typically get. They kept him only long enough to finish paying the Charlie Weis and Turner Gill buyouts. With those two off the books, they had the cash again to hire Les.

KU makes money--big money--off basketball. They can afford it.

That's one thing that is very frustrating about Rice athletics. Basketball has always been a huge money loser, and that really handicaps the rest of the athletic program. I've said it before, if I were AD, I would set the goals as becoming Navy in football and Gonzaga in basketball, and returning to being Rice in baseball. Those are all doable within CUSA, and doing them all is the key to getting out of CUSA.
