South Carolina State Reported To Join Big South Along With Robert Morris Football?
Robert Morris Football And South Carolina State to Big South

The possible landing spot for Robert Morris's football team is an affiliate to the Big South.

The part about Robert Morris possible landing spot have the news that SCSU is leaving MEAC for the Big South.

Quote:The Big South currently sits at eight members. The league is scheduled to lose Presbyterian to the Pioneer League in 2021, while adding North Carolina A&T. The Colonials would make an uneven number of teams, but Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that South Carolina State could be a candidate to also leave the MEAC and join the Big South, along with North Carolina A&T, in 2021.

MEAC is falling apart as South Carolina State being reported the next school to join the Big South. I bet Bethune-Cookman could be in talks in either joining the A-Sun or joining the SWAC.

That's not what the article says at all. The reporter says he's learned that RM is LOOKING into the Big South and that S.C. State COULD (your favorite fudge word) be moving from the MEAC. That's a far cry from their departures being reported as though it's settled law.

I put it as a question in the title. With Florida A&M just leaving, SCSU to the Big South makes since. MEAC is on shakey grounds and SCSU leaving to Big South makes a lot of sense for travel if NCCU goes as well.

Can't speak to Robert Morris but SC State has been plagued by serious financial and leadership problems for a several years now, if they make a move I would suspect it would be to D-II, not the Big South, though being in a league with A&T and Hampton for football and the low-cost of travel for Olympic sports to play Upstate, Charleston Southern, PC and Winthrop would probably be alluring.

RE: South Carolina State Reported To Join Big South Along With Robert Morris Football?
Interesting on SC State. That may have been what was referred to about the MEAC losing another school or two in the FAMU meetings. I will have to look into it to see if any legs on this one, or just some whiff of rumor. SC State is not a super healthy school, and it doesn't really make sense for the Big South. But maybe SC State is looking at reduced travel costs, and with two other HBCUs it might be more attractive. It's into June, so unless there is something in the next few days, I don't see this happening.

Dunno that RMU is doing anything either. They have a new AD (a Southerner, not a Yinzer) and are sniffing around their options. Staying put in the NEC is probably the logical decision, as there is not much change in going to either the MAAC or tHL, except that Football would need a conference, and the Big South is step down. My hunch is this will be like the last time they sniffed options, which were the same leagues, and nothing happened.

Can't see the Big South adding SC State. They'd add NC Central, Howard, or even Norfolk St before them, imo.

There is no way the Big South is a step down from the NEC in football or basketball.

They are not talking about Basketball in the Big South.

Football is an upgrade for Robert Morris.
SCSU could use more money. Big South last year was ranked 8th of all the FCS conferences. It would be a step up, and if they get their football team winning? They could go to the playoffs instead of staying home.

I don’t think the language of the Youngstown St/RMU series is grounds for alarm. That language is in there just in case a realignment occurs.

If I’m the Big South and I’m looking at poaching another MEAC school, SC St isn’t the one I’m interested in. I’d want N.C. Central.

I agree. Big South would look at NC Central and Norfolk State much ahead of SC State.

Get their football winning? They are 17 time MEAC champs.

There are only two remaining MEAC schools worth pursuing..... Howard and NC Central.

If invited today SCSU would at worst be the third best football program in the Big South, and most likely #2 behind A&T.

Yep.

UNA had a fine run at DII, but that's DII. SC State has been DI-AA/FCS since the inception of the subdivision and has a storied history and tradition.

That is nonsense! Kennesaw St. would lay the wood to SCSU. And Monmouth was a better team last year as well.

Well they could be the 3rd best HBCU football team in the Big South if they joined
