Everybody is expecting big things from this kid including coach K. He's stated this clearly in his podcasts. He is expected to contribute as a frosh and primarily play a 2 in his first year and then maturing to a 1. I'm rooting for him.

Go Rockets!

I really like freshman Jamere Hill. He doesn't get talked about much, but he's a big point guard with excellent quickness. I think he and Rollins could be the backcourt of the future.

He plays in a fairly competitive league in Macomb County, so those stats are meaningful - it's not like he compiled them against inferior competition. He'll be coming from the MAC (Macomb Area Conference) to the MAC

What I liked from reading the article was how Rollins High School Coach said that he was consistent, played hard and never took a night off. You add that to his obvious skill level and you have the makings of a high impact player down the road. We have been very fortunate in the TK era to have 2 high level point guards in Juice Brown and Marreon Jackson which I think is the most vital position on the basketball court to determine the success or failure of a team. Lets hope Rollins can live up to the potential and hype, and continue the All MAC level Point Guard Play tradition that his 2 predecessors have built!

If you list THE BEST point guard in the MAC over the last five years or so,- Juice, Simmons, Persons, Marreon (so far), German - NONE of them have taken their team to the NCAA Tournament.

Just sayin...

Cleveland, your take got me curious so see the following Point Guards for the past 10 MAC Tournament Champions with Points and Assists per game:

2019 CJ Massinburg (Buffalo) 18 Points, 3 Assists
2018 Wes Clark (Buffalo) 15 Points, 5.4 Assists
2017 Deon Edwin (Kent St) 13 Points, 2.5 Assists
2016 Lamonte Beardon (Buffalo) 13 Points, 4.2 Assists
2015 Shannon Brown (Buffalo) 15 Points, 4.6 Assists
2014 Austin Richie (WMU) 7 Points, 2.3 Assists
2013 Alex Abreu (Akron) 10 Points, 6.0 Assists
2012 DJ Cooper (Ohio) 14 Points, 5.7 Assists
2011 Darryl Roberts (Akron) 8 Points, 1.7 Assists
2010 DJ Cooper (Ohio) 13 Points, 5.9 Assists

While some were a lot better than others (Massinburg and Cooper in particular), I think they all played important parts in their individual team’s success!

For sure all played important parts ... but all were not TRUE point guards.

Masinburg was more wing than PG ... Edwin was aactually and (undersized) power forward.

The MAC DPOY (forget his name) was the PG for Buffalo in 2019 ... Jalen Avery was starting PG for Kent in 2017 ... Beardon also PG for UB in 2015.

exactly, nearly half your list weren't really pg's so what are we analyzing?

looking back at mac tournament history, most of the MVPs are not pgs but most of the teams that won the tourney and played well in the ncaas had very good pgs. the other thing is some teams always evolve to run an offense where 2 or 3 guys function as point men, even if all are not pure pgs. in recent years many of the MAC's tourney champs had very good defensive pgs for sure.

This is not 'my' list. Like you, I was responding to it. ... Yes, on most teams 2/3 guys get the ball in their hands a lot, but even then, there is usually one PG.

The point I was making, is in the MAC, having a PG carry/will his team to a title is few and far between. At the same time, a true PG is key to the success of nearly all title teams.

RE: Incoming point guard Rollins ready to learn the ropes at Toledo
I think most would agree that none of the conference champions had “bad” point guards. Most have had a pretty complete team with few holes in the lineup. I don’t see as many superstars in the league as there were a couple of decades ago or longer (Wally Sz..., Ron Harper, Bonzi Wells, Mix, etc).

I think if UT having Rollins as a potentially very good guard (point or combo) to build around is a good start for a future league championship.

Now we need to complete the team with other “good” players either from our existing roster or future players.
