He had discussions back and forth with a few (possibly many) of them via text. He would be correct in saying he reached out to each individual player, and also that he had discussed it with them.

The team captain sounds like he's letting a little power go to his head and making a huge overblown deal about a simple miscommunication. I wouldn't want that kind of toxicity in charge of the team, but Norvell is stuck with it now. If he's lucky, the team captain (who is apparently REALLY in charge of the team) will let him keep his job.

yea, I do see that side too

you just have to be so careful with whatever you communicate

I'm going with a combination of "stirring crap up" and "sports void boredom" for $400, Alex.

this

There are a lot of actual problems people have. The captain of the team not getting a personal convo isn't one of them.

This guy is gonna be a multi millionaire tackling people. Cry me a river.

Put on your big boy pants little girl. Let me know when you have ACTUAL problems instead of being a whiny Biat#h

He was not complaining because he did not get a one on one conversation. It is because his young, white and very rich coach publicly stated he had one on one conversations with every player about the ongoing racial tensions facing our country right now, when the reality is he did not. If Norvell had never made that comment then this player never would have whispered a word. Norvell blatantly lied about the worst topic possible at the worst possible time and got called on it.

But Norvell sacked up, admitted he made a mistake, addressed the team and because of that it is not longer being talked about nationally.

My point was that the whole thing is a COMPLETE NON ISSUE.

Only a whiny self absorbed punk would even make a big deal out of this.

Millions.. sorry BILLIONS.. of people have ACTUAL REAL problems. This is just a whiny future millionaire (his skill.. me hit hard!) complaining and making it all about him and his feelings.

Sorry, not sorry. This guys is gonna have a great life as a multi millionaire in a great country that affords him the opportunity to make millions tackling people.

It's just stupid and pathetic to make this an issue to begin with.

Also, who cares if Mike Norvell is white? That's just another stupid thing that has nothing to do with this guy whining like a little girl about a "problem" that... you know.. isn't actually a real problem.

Got it, you are the doorkeeper for what is and is not a real problem and who is and is not allowed to speak out... Honestly, your generalizations, use of stereotypes and verbiage pretty well speaks for itself.

I don't see how a team that calls itself Seminoles and does that tomahawk thing could complain about Norvell's grayish skin tone. Maybe he'll tan up.

I almost feel bad for Norvell.

In the 4 years he was here do we have any other examples of him behaving like this?

I can't recall any. So, I'm going to go with a misunderstanding / miswording / mixing in what was in the process of occurring and intended - rather than immediately jump in with the labels.

And, yeah - the player (s) owed it to the coach to reach out for clarification before making a very loud, very public issue out of it. I stand by this sentiment.

That is breaking the locker room code on top of being extremely disresoectful to your head coach.

Public shaming is all the rage now. You need to get woke. You're still living in the 80s. On your knees sir 01-ncaabbs

Of course it is...

And it is being led by our shamer and chief...The President.

What's your point? He can be wrong just like anyone else can be. He's my President (and yours like it or not), not my buddy or my pal. Him being wrong doesn't make other people right.

My point is that this is not a left or right deal...It is a societal deal.

Yet people will make posts like Atlanta saying shaming is Selective. It is not...It is everywhere.

Why should they have called it out. Calling it out was more racially divisive than what he said in the first place. I've seen interviews with a lot of black leaders that say the same thing. Stop bringing it up, stop talking about it.

RE: Norvell in hot water?
"Back and forth" screams texting. Not "discussions" or "conversations". He sent a text to each player. They all had the opportunity for the back and forth. Some took the opportunity. For some reason, the team captain did not reply and take the opportunity for the dialog. Mike exaggerated. The team captain leveraged.

Transition issues. Nothing more, nothing less.

Crimes are usually committed by people living in close proximity to each other...

Unfortunately our neighborhoods are not integrated like they should be so black folks live near black folks...Hence black folks are killed by black folks...Just like white folks are killed by white folks and latino folks are killed by latino folks.

Again with the race baiting.

Race baiting...

Huh...I clarified your misleading statement.

Saying black people kill more black people than police means what...It means nothing because of what I stated in the post above.

I mean, it does mean SOMETHING. Among all ethnic & gender groups in the US, accidents are the #1 cause of death for teenagers. Except for black male teenagers. For that group, homicide is the leading cause of death. And it's not about the proximity of where they live, good grief.

If we could take half of the energy and resources spent on police protests the past few weeks and apply it to that problem, we likely save many young black lives.

I'm not denying that. What I'm trying to say is this didn't need to be made into a public humiliation. It could have been handled behind closed doors, and Norvell could have still made a retraction with a lot less embarrassment. Just my opinion.

in the end its not a big deal and everyone can have a different opinion on it. My opinion is that he lied about it in public so Norvell shouldn't have an expectation that it wouldn't get called out in public.

In the past, coaches had so much power that players just kept their mouths shut. The time of players not having a public voice to counteract their coaches, however, in revenue producing sports is over. The players are realizing their value and that carries over to their platform.

In the end, it looks like it was dealt with pretty well by Norvell and the players.

I figure this team will end up turning on him as soon as they lose 2-3 games.

Probably end up walking out of a few practices and such.

If he has some walk out of a few practices, that's when you suggest they find another school. That's what the transfer portal is for. You have to get people around you that buy in. If some malcontent holdovers don't like the new sheriff, move them out and move on. You are going to get a freebie transition year with the AD and boosters anyway, so might as well clean house while you can. Also, with the pace of play Norvell likes to run, he may have a few leaving practice because they can't take the pace - it gets awful steamy in Florida for practices with that much activity....

Just sayin'!

Well, that is what would typically happen and maybe what used to happen but I'd say in today's climate, Norvell will be the one in trouble.

I read that tweet and didn’t think for a millisecond that he was saying he had individual one on one conversations with 125 players in two days. The goof that posted that said it. Norvell said he had back and forth. In this electronic age, that could mean anything. Communication ain’t what it used to be.
