I don't see Navy in the Magnolia mix without Army and Air Force either. And Texas won't head to the Big 10 without some major support going with them.

Big 10:
Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State, Virginia
Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers
Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska

SEC:
Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina
Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, N.C. State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech
Arkansas, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M

Magnolia:
Boston College, Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse
Duke, Northwestern Vanderbilt, Wake Forest
Air Force, Army, Miami, Navy
Baylor, S.M.U., T.C.U., Tulsa or Rice

Where's Wisconsin?03-confused

I would replace Tulsa or Syracuse with Tulane.

Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska

SEC:
Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina
Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, N.C. State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech
Arkansas, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M

Magnolia:
Boston College, Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse
Duke, Northwestern Vanderbilt, Wake Forest
Air Force, Army, Miami, Navy
Baylor, S.M.U., T.C.U., Tulsa or Rice

I also don’t think UNC, UVA, or Notre Dame would want any part of this...

Magnolia: TCU, Baylor, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Army (football only), Navy (football only)
Miami, Duke, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Boston College
(Notre Dame non-football)

Big XII: Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St
Kansas, Kansas St, Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa St

SEC: LSU, Memphis, Ole Miss, Mississippi St, Alabama, Auburn
Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, UCF

Big Ten: Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue
Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, Penn St, Rutgers, Maryland

ACC: USF, Florida St, Georgia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State
Virginia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Temple

PAC-12: Unchanged

Independent: Notre Dame

And that’s it - The new league is 6 conferences of 12 teams + Notre Dame. No Big East, no A-10. I had to draw the line somewhere otherwise we’d have so many onesy-twosy members like Gonzaga men’s basketball, UConn women’s basketball, Coastal Carolina baseball, Arkansas Tech cow tipping, etc.

I wouldn’t include them in a breakaway, but I’d also shuffle C-USA and Sun Belt based upon who has had a pulse in football...

C-USA: Tulsa, SMU, LaTech, Tulane, SoMiss, UAB, Troy
Arkansas St, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Marshall, East Carolina, App St, Georgia Southern

Sun Belt: UTEP, North Texas, Texas St, UTSA, Rice, La Monroe, La Lafayette
South Alabama, Old Dominion, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Georgia St, FAU, FIU

After BYU finds out they’ve completely missed the boat, they rejoin MW and New Mexico St finally gets a nod as well.

After UConn finds out they’ve completely missed the boat, they approach UMass and the MAC for football-only membership.

What’s left of NCAA FBS football is 4 conferences of 14 teams.

None of any of these scenarios are going to happen. This is the kind of discussion we get when there is zip going on in sports. It's conversation for the sake of conversation. Sometimes a little awareness is a good thing.

The "Magnolia" sobriquet was a play on "southern Ivy".

Oh man...what did NC State do to you to deserve this?! But kidding aside. What's the rationale for NC State in the ACC N and VT in the ACC S. Switch them and you do have a N vs S that makes more sense and also (old) Big East vs (old) ACC. Whats the thought process here?

However, I would suggest one minor thing. Switch Louisville and Texas A&M. That would help with the geography stretch you mention, plus unite Louisville and Kentucky in the same conference and put A&M with the other Texas schools.
Two problems there. A&M doesn't want to be with Texas and Kentucky is the only SEC school that didn't want its instate rival in the conference, well, besides A&M. South Carolina and Florida were willing to sponsor Clemson and F.S.U. in 2011 and Florida did sponsor F.S.U. in '91. Georgia was meh about Tech but they were willing to do it because it was another state school and there was some pressure.

Does that mean A&M would not agree to Texas moving to the SEC?

I don't think you really have to worry whether A&M would want Texas, because Texas doesn't want to be in the SEC.

Yeah, they're just itching to get into the ACC instead. 03-wink

I can't speak for David S but my guess is he wanted Virginia, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina together and NC State had to be moved to the North. You could do East (BC, UConn, Syr, Pitt, Va, VaT) and West (Lville, UNC, NCSt, Clem, GaT, FSU)

The Big Ten has 13 members and the SEC has just 11. If you wanted to even it out, you can move Arkansas back to the SEC where they've been since 1991. Someone then has to move from the Big Ten to the Big 12 so Iowa. Yes, they've always been a Big Ten but who else would you move, Rutgers? At least Iowa fits in geographically in the Big 12 (especially the North) and the Iowa/Iowa State rivalry would be a conference rivalry.
