RE: CUSA Changes
Wonder if it'll still be neutral site or if they're going towards higher speeds hosting the games on campus.

I think that it depends on how lucrative the tournament is to the conference. If it makes money, I imagine that it will continue. To me if the tournament goes away, you should just go with the regular season champion where every conference game matters.

RE: CUSA Changes
I’m with you there Attalla, but for the time being these changes are a good thing. There has never been a reason to bring 12 teams to the tournament in this version of CUSA. If we weren’t going to protect the top seeds with byes, this is the next best thing.

Also, I don’t believe this will eliminate the need for the type of drapery in question.

Not a huge fan of that basketball setup. You are really going to give an advantage to teams that aren’t in tougher regions. I assume our closest 5 will be USM, La Tech, WKU, MTSU, and Marshall based off of that article.

Our 5 are probably - MTSU, WKU, Marshall, FAU and FIU, based upon the fact the conference wants to keep the existing travel partners intact and UAB is the 2nd closest to the Florida twins behind Charlotte. Working inward from the corners, my guess is:

FAU - FIU; Charlotte/ODU; UAB/MTSU
FIU - FAU; Charlotte/ODU; UAB/MTSU

ODU - Charlotte; FAU/FIU; Marshall/WKU
Charlotte - ODU; FAU/FIU; Marshall/WKU

Marshall - WKU; ODU/Charlotte; UAB/MTSU
WKU - Marshall; ODU/Charlotte; UAB/MTSU

UAB - MTSU; FAU/FIU; WKU/Marshall
MTSU - UAB; FAU/FIU; WKU/Marshall

UTEP - UTSA; NTX/Rice; LT/SMiss
UTSA - UTEP; NTX/Rice; LT/SMiss

NTX - Rice; UTEP/UTSA; LT/SMiss
Rice - NTX; UTEP/UTSA; LT/SMiss

LT - SMiss; NTX/Rice; UTEP/UTSA

RE: CUSA Changes
I think it is a great move to downsize from 12 to 8. I even say just do away with the tourney all together. But I would be cool if they just took the Top 4 teams after the regular season. Number 1 and 2 seed play at home with the winners playing the final game at the remaining higher seed arena.

Well that's even worse. Nothing more I want for UAB than to have to play those Florida schools twice a year.

We have a whole new program. I'm going to assume we dominate those highschool gym schools until they show us otherwise...

RE: CUSA Changes
I wouldn't mind a setup of the round of 8 games played at each higher seed's court. Then bring the four winners to the highest seed that's left court. Friday night semifinals. Saturday 3rd place game followed by the championship game. This rewards the best teams' athletic programs and should guarantee good crowds in the stands.

RE: CUSA Changes
I like that too, if we have to go small time.
I prefer big time set up and all teams play though.
We need to give all CUSA Season ticket holders of basketball a chance to include Tourney tix in season ticket packages. Some will show support of team and purchase them. Conf office can share that revenue based on tix sold to allow better attending/ticket buying teams to benefit from their fans loyalty. But sell them preseason. Be sure to give reg season champs and runners up multiple byes and set them up for finals. Give bad teams a Chance by beating other bad teams until semis where top two teams come in with byes.

RE: CUSA Changes
Why should the conference give bad teams a chance to become good during the post season? That's what the regular season is for. CUSA is no longer a big time basketball conference and therefore there is no need to run the conference tourney in a big time setup. The average bball attendance for CUSA over the last 5 years is around 3300. That horrible and not likely to improve all that much over the next couple of years.

It time for CUSA to make the regular season more meaningful and this is a step in the right direction.

Agree that attendance is terrible. Giving double byes to reg season champion and making that lower tier team play 5 games to win title are incentives enough. Just saying I want UAB in a big time conference. If you think small time and act small time then what are you?
