Minneapolis Mayor is W&M Grad and formerTrack standout
Jacob Frey W&M Class of 2004 grad was eleced Mayor about a year ago. Previously he had served several terms on the City Council. He majored in Government at W&M and received a Law Degree from Villanova Law School. He worked as a Civil Rights Attorney and Community Organizer before becoming Mayor. His campaign platform was a pledge to "improve Community/Police relations" in the City of Minneapolis.

Not the greatest of press for sure. I did hear he made sure all the "protesters" were provided masks - though social distancing appeared somewhat relaxed along with other responsibilities.

Also linked in here was another W&M alum, Patton Oswalt, who was showcased as one of the lead contributors to the bail-out fund for the Minneapolis "protesters" - those arrested for arson, looting, etc. This is the same Patton Oswalt who just a month ago was belittling actual peaceful protesters in Los Angeles who wanted some relief from the rigid lockdowns there. I believe he advised them to chill out and stay home to enjoy some Netflix.

Protesting about having to stay home for a bit in the name of public health is quite different than protesting systemic racism.

Don't try to equate the two.

Correct. Protesting and looting/destruction are not the same either and you shouldn’t equate the two either.

Worthy read about the Minnesota Freedom Fund:
https://www.startribune.com/university-o...418289153/

Protesting and looting/destruction are not the same, and should not be grouped together by anyone on any side or viewpoint, including police. Our justice system should be a level playing field, but the unfortunate reality is that money is a factor. We all can and need to do better.

There is also a fund set-up online by a Vet that is raising money to help all the small businesses that were burned out and ransacked in this Minneapolis community. I don't have details on it though you can probably find it online.

Interesting history regarding the poorly phrased "Disband or Defund the Police" taglines. Theyre not after what you think.

This is a really good article on the details behind the slogan. https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/...the-police

"I'm certainly not talking about any kind of scenario where tomorrow someone just flips a switch and there are no police. What I'm talking about is the systematic questioning of the specific roles that police currently undertake, and attempting to develop evidence-based alternatives so that we can dial back our reliance on them."
