RE: Are you buying 2020 football season tickets?
If football is being played in BFS, my crew and I will be there. Even if that means wearing masks, sitting 6 feet apart, or having to cover ourselves with purell after every 6th play, we will be there rooting.

Why would football be the same? It's outside.

Because of the proximity of spectators to each other & the nature of droplets spread from cheering. Thank you for asking.

The mandate you cited applies to when you are indoors only. If you're suggesting that JMU will require masks to be worn during games, that is laughable. Once inside the stadium, the security is beyond useless. I don't even know why JMU hires them. They are there to watch the game for free and sure as hell won't be telling anyone to put on their masks.

I mentioned the current state mandate because of how it will impact JMU students attending class. My comparison is that JMU won’t mandate students wearing masks while allowing 25,000 to gather in Bridgeforth without masks. I’m not saying the state will mandate it. Understand?

You do realize there's a reason why outdoor gatherings are limited to 10 or less during Phase I and 50 or less during Phase II right? When you're right next to 20000 of your best friends, water droplets don't care whether you're inside or outside.

Shouldn't this be less an issue of enforcement and more an issue of social responsibility? Is wearing a mask for 3 hours really a barrier to rootin'?

Can you imagine a society deciding that public safety is more important than stuffing their face or slightly muffled sports cheers for 3 whole hours? BDK can't.

A poster said they would ask for a refund if they were required to wear a mask in the stadium and you replied, citing the mask mandate, that they should get ready to demand a refund. You suggested if students had to wear masks inside that JMU would require fans to wear them outside. " if JMU is planning to require masks in class, football will be the same." That's ridiculous.

RE: Are you buying 2020 football season tickets?
I cited the mask mandate because it impacts JMU's decision on fall. I don't understand why this is so hard to understand. It's not my decision. It's JMU's. It SEEMS like JMU is planning to mandate mask-wearing for classes indoors based on info Longhorn shared. I'm saying that if JMU is making that decision, that they will also require them in the stadium.

IT'S NOT MY DECISION. I'M SPECULATING ON JMU'S DECISION. I'M SORRY I BROUGHT UP THE STATE MANDATE AND YOU GOT TRIGGERED BY IT. I THOUGHT IT ADDED TO THE DISCUSSION ABOUT JMU'S DECISION.

RE: Are you buying 2020 football season tickets?
I was told from a pretty good source yesterday that they are going to move the football season to next spring! I would be fine with that. As much as it would pain me, I am not sure I can go to games at BFS until there is a vaccine. Being 69 with type 2 diabetes and having had surgery on my lung for a severe bacterial pneumonia three years ago. I simply would be putting myself at very high risk. Time will tell.

Thanks for the info BSKB. I wouldn't be surprised if CFB games were moved to the spring, although there seems to be a lot of conversation indicating some teams WILL play this fall. Should be interesting!

There’s a CAA conference call today. I don’t know if any decisions will be made today but I’m sure we’ll hear something by the end of the month.

If I am you, I am making this same decision. Those at higher risk should do exactly what you are doing. It is my hope that this virus will die out over time and allow us all to return to normalcy. I think we can all agree that predicting the future is very difficult at this time.

if its moved to spring, probably a decent chance (50/50) it's lost. Because we could be right back into this situation again a year from now if another wave hits like some are predicting.

who knows. it's all speculation everywhere.

Our group is holding out for more information, although JMU will still likely get a donation in some form even if football is cancelled. Personally, I don't want to pay for something that isn't guaranteed. I'd imagine if we don't know for sure whether there will be a season or not by June 15th, the deadline will get extended.

I try to think of potential scenarios with playing this fall. One of our players comes down with the virus the last week of August, then the team has to self quarantine for two weeks? Or, we are supposed to play Delaware and they have to self quarantine? I just don't see how it can possibly work. One player or coach gets it and you are shut down for a minimum of two weeks. There would be more games forfeited than played.

Agreed. Round numbers but lets say the team plus staff is 125 people not including trainers and other support. Out of 125 people in today's world, nevermind a world where social distancing isn't possible (hard to play football or workout at Plecker and social distance), someone will eventually get it. Hell, someone probably already has it and just doesn't show symptoms. Symptoms or not, someone will eventually get it with a group that large and that closely knit. A two weekend quarantine effectively ends your season.

So early poll results are interesting.... a quarter of fans say they already bought, a quarter say they intend to buy, but almost half aren't sure or will not buy. I guess that feels about right.

I'm in the "monitor the situation" bucket, but I also will 100% be there if games are being played regardless of what is required. I just would prefer not to spend my money until there's some more information on what to expect.

Yeah Newbill, I feel the same way. Guess I should figure out donation stuff before 6/15 to be sure about seats/parking.

RE: Are you buying 2020 football season tickets?
I guess I may be too much of an optimist, but I really think the situation will be much improved by September. Therefore, I am hopeful that the season will move forward in a normal fashion. As far as mandating masks in the classroom, that just seems completely useless to me. Does anyone really think students are going to wear masks and social distance outside of the classroom? Maybe the idea is just to protect the professors and university staff? Oh and I did go ahead and purchase my tickets even though I won’t attend if there are restrictions or modifications because JMU did say that if fans chose not to attend this season the purchase could be refunded or transferred to the 2021 season. I would likely transfer my payment to the following season. For that reason I felt like there was really no reason not to go ahead and purchase.
