RE: The Xi Jinpooh Chronicles: Communism's Last Stand
Quote:US moves to restrict Chinese media outlets as 'propaganda'
The Trump administration is designating the U.S. operations of four major Chinese media outlets as “foreign missions” in an action that could force some of their staff to leave the country

WASHINGTON -- The Trump administration added four Chinese media outlets Monday to a list of organizations that should be considered “foreign missions” because of their ties to the government and the Communist Party, a move that could force some to cut staff in the U.S. and is likely to further aggravate relations between the two countries.

State Department officials said the four organizations, including state-run CCTV, would be required to submit a list of everyone who works for them in the U.S. and any real estate holdings just as they would if they were foreign embassies or consulates.

None are being ordered to leave the U.S. and no limits on their activities were announced. But five other Chinese organizations were directed to cap the number of people who could work in the United States in March — a month after they were designated as foreign missions.

State Department officials said the organizations are essentially mouthpieces for the Communist Party and Chinese government, not legitimate news outlets.

Same playbook as our democrat commies - best liars rise quickly towards the top.

Hey remember Zhao Lijian? He was the former ambassador to Pakistan for China. He made waves on Twitter saying COVID was planted by the US Army in Wuhan. That slimy SOAB is now a top spokesman for the foreign ministry of the CCP.

Here he is crying over US sanctions for the Chinese concentration camps: https://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomac...g-policies

China sanctions Lockheed Martin for supplying Patriot Missles to Taiwan and several US Senators for publicly complaining about Hong Kong and China's concentration camps.

Here we see how devastated those Senators are:

Quote:The United States and the world "will not allow Beijing to treat the South China Sea as its maritime empire," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday, prompting China to hit back, reflecting a ratcheting up of tensions between the two powers amid deteriorating relations.

"We are making clear: Beijing's claims to offshore resources across most of the South China Sea are completely unlawful, as is its campaign of bullying to control them," Pompeo said in a statement, referring to the contentious and potentially energy-rich stretch of water.

The U.S. has long opposed China's expansive territorial claims in the South China Sea, regularly sending Navy patrols through the strategic waterways to demonstrate freedom of navigation there. Most recently, on July 4, two U.S. aircraft carriers carried out operations in the area as the Chinese military conducted drills nearby.

"Regularly sending Navy patrols ... to demonstrate freedom of navigation," won't get it done. We need to form a NATO-like alliance with Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, India, and Australia. We can bribe that alliance up by promising to help them stand off the bullying of the Chinese and by offering them a bunch of cheap consumer goods manufacturing that we move out of China.

We need to deploy a carrier battle group (CVBG) and an amphibious ready group (ARG) to the area on a full-time basis. Let them conduct regular joint/combined operations with alliance partners. Let them make regular port visits to Subic, Sepanggar, Jakarta, Singapore, Cam Ranh Bay, Perth, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Kaohsiung, and others. Tell China very directly, "We're not shooting at you--yet--but we're in your face and we're not going away."

To do this, we need to GTFO of the Mideast. That puts pressure on China because we don't need that oil, but China does. And until somebody figures out how to build a pipeline over the Himalayas, that oil has to come by sea. If they have to think about convoying tankers through the Straits of Horamuz, around India, and through the Straits of Malacca, that means they need a blue water navy, and not the force to intimidate their neighbors that PLAN is currently building.

Truman bribed up an alliance to beat the Soviets. Reagan put pressure on their economy to collapse them without firing a shot. It's a simple but brilliant game plan, and it can work again. But we have to get high behind doing it.

Agree, Owl. Great take on what we should do. Getting out of the ME would free up resources and your plan is thinking a few steps ahead. Put them on notice.

For that plan to be credible, it needs strong Democrat support. The Chinese think long-term on these great-power struggles.

I know some Democrats would strongly support it, like Schumer.

Another thing that would help is if the Taiwanese would abandon their claims to the South China Sea. Right now we can't team up with them on anything because of their ridiculous claims to rule all the land Bejing claims.

Owl, both you and the Chinese know the PACFLT isn't ready for prime time. You'd have to swap the 2nd and 7th for your plan to not be viewed as hollow.

What we are seeing right now is what kind of military we get when loyalty to political correctness and a related agenda is more important than professional military competence. 7th Fleet has had its share of disasters, but I see no reason to believe that 2nd Fleet, or any other, would do better.

The current Navy leadership has given us the Ford aircraft carriers, the LCSs, the Zumwalts, the Fitzgerald and McCain collisions, the Port Royal grounding, and now the Bonhomme Richard fire. And the BHR fire calls attention to the fact that the Navy is spending $3.5 billion apiece for a bunch of large-deck LHA/LHD amphibs from which it is impossible to launch a credible amphibious assault because there is no viable way to get tanks and artillery ashore. So the Marines are now talking about getting rid of tanks and artillery altogether, and finding missions that a bunch of Boy Scouts with BB guns can do.

It’s an asylum, and the inmates are running it. I have no words for the abject stupidity being displayed.

Am I the only one who remembers a large number of our senior military leaders being purged during the Obama administration? I suspect that the blunders being made now are a consequence of those high level officers leaving the military. Not the only reason but contributes in a major way.

Ab-so-frick-ing-lute-ly. They were purged because of political correctness or failure to sign on to the Obama socialist/communist agenda.

Can't really balme them for the Ford. That was really Rumsfeld's deal. As was at least the start of the LCSs. And the Zumwalts actually date back to the DD21 under Clinton. But when the first ones came down and didn't work, it was the fault of the successors for not stopping them. At the same time, they SINKEXed all the Spruances and got rid of all the Perrys prematurely, to make room for the LCSs. If we had kept them for their normal lives, we would still have a couple of Spruances and over 40 Perrys, and our anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability would at least have been way better than it is.

There is an interesting video online where CAPT Tal Manvel, who headed up the Ford project in its early days, talks about how they made the decisions they made. All they basically did is to compare the Ford, if all of the new gadgets worked (and they don't yet) to different carrier alternatives. What they never did was to look at if a Ford costs twice as much as another option, then how does the Ford compare to two of the other options. Or how does a Ford ($14B) compare to a Nimitz ($8-9B) plus a Kitty Hawk ($5-6B)? Or my favorite, how do two Fords ($28B) compare to a Nimitz, a Kitty Hawk, a cruiser, two AAW destroyers, 3 GP escorts, and 4 ASW frigates ($28B)?
