What's the point of even bringing up what the Bama BOT did before? Should that be held over UAB's head and them not being considered for a move to another conference? That's nonsense. They, more than likely wouldn't consider a move to the Belt as they have aspirations of being in the AAC, so the point is moot. I'm done.

I never said I desired UAB to be in the SBC. I said I desired USM and Marshall.

I wouldn't say it should be held over their head, but when it comes to another conference that may consider UAB for membership, there's absolutely no doubt that would be brought up. If the UA BOT did it once already in a quick, bold move... then I believe a conference like the AAC would certainly consider that possibility again so they aren't left in a predicament.

UAB is part the the University of Alabama System, where South is not and Troy is not either.
We 10 for football, but don't forget that we have 2 Arkansas Little Rock and Texas Arlington in all other sports. What do we do with them?

Nothing...the best course of action is to hold what we have and build our current conference into the best it can be.

Evidently Marshall’s President and AD are happy in CUSA according to every article and insider post that I read. This frustrates me to no end. Maybe it’s all posturing since there really isn’t any offers on the table to do anything right now. Just for once in my life I would like to hear the powers to be at Marshall say publicly that are going to explore ALL options going forward that would better Marshall. The heck with, saying nice things about the conference your in when clearly there is a problem.

I said it once and I’ll say it again. Without a tv deal with ESPN CUSA will continue to die a slow death. I realize that makes me sound crazy but whatever. The proof is in the pudding, so we will what happens over the next 2 years until CUSA’s next tv deal. Until then, I’ll be hoping that the SBC extends Marshall and Southern Miss a life raft off the island of mis-fit toys.

FOUR significant events ahead:

-- declining enrollment at most universities even before Covid could mean slashing athletic budgets forcing change in conference or even cutting major sports or levels and do not forget statewide cuts to universities

-- C-USA TV/media contract expires in two years with uncertain results

-- CFP deal will begin to be re-negotiated in 2023

-- Rumors of Big 12 losing schools in the next five years-- IF this occurs a reshuffle of G5 conferences is possible


IMO any conference movement will NOT occur until at least two of these events are settled. It may not even happen at that point.

Im betting you’re middle aged and have followed Marshall for a couple decades. University admins are like rotating chairs. They come and go and know little about what it took to get where we are. Their interest are driven by the networks they’ve established to promote themselves within the current system. I truly hate to say it but your riding this ride till the end. It’ll take time for the Sun Belt to separate enough to gain any traction to bring you over. Marshall would be a flagship program in the Sun Belt but you would most certainly be among your blue collar peers and back with programs you have history and rivalry. It’s a shame IMO.
