Giving the champion of a conference the best bowl seemed fair.

I would have preferred giving NOLA the champion and letting ESPN pick 2-4, but we all know ESPNruns CFB so here we are.

FIFY

Well, ESPN does owns 17+/- of these bowls, so yea you could say that

???? Didn't you play UAB in New Orleans last year or am I missing something here? App St fans were upset last year when the New Orleans Bowl and ESPN wouldn't work a swap to get App a bigger name opponent in a higher profile Bowl game.

Reasonable App fans knew NOLA wasn't going to be turn down a 12-1 top 20 ranked team for their bowl. Some of our fans wanted the Belk Bowl versus an ACC team, wasn't realistic.

I'm talking about our third and fourth year of the SBC when the champion wasn't guarantee a quality opponent.

This is good news for TXST fans with two tie-ins in state. Other than New Orleans, none of the other previous 4 locations were desirable for us geographically-speaking.

I can see it now. App wins the league and gets sent to Boise to play the MWC runner up.

Yes Texas St has to be happy with this assuming ESPN would try to create regional match ups these Bowl options will be a lot better for our western schools. The only one I cringe at is Boise.

Boise works great if your wanting a Christmas ski trip with your bowl game.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Better opponent than any other SBC bowl. Boise is a cool town.

There’d be at least a few in your fan base who would be upset with that arrangement

That would have been the Belk bowl in Charlotte against VT, unfortunately the rumor was the SEC was ultimately calling the shots so Kentucky went to Charlotte, we went to NO

Having Texas bowls might not help... Those cities want people to spend multiple days in hotels. That's why it hurts for South - We will never get picked for Lending Tree, and I doubt Camillla Bowl will pick us again. Lending Tree rep said on the radio that they don't want to have the same team here ever year(like Arkansas State and Troy). They won't commit to where they are playing the game this year. They think Ladd is going to magically better than Hancock Whitney while they still have open for high school football.

I know I am late to the party here, but the First Responders Bowl has five conferences it can choose from, according to all of the conferences' official press releases. AAC, C-USA, Sun Belt, as well as the Big 12 & ACC. This creates a pathway for a Sun Belt team to participate in a bowl with a P5, even outside of a New Year's game.

That's great news even if the chances of it happening are extremely slim.

New Orleans gets the 2nd pick and Mobile gets to go last.

Bowl pool includes...
• Boca Raton Bowl (Boca Raton, FL)
• Camellia Bowl (Montgomery, AL)
• Cure Bowl (Orlando, FL)
• Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Boise, ID)
• SERVPRO First Responder Bowl (Dallas, TX)
• Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl (Frisco, TX)
• Myrtle Beach Bowl (Myrtle Beach, SC)
• New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque, NM)

Keith Gill is proving to be a poor commissioner, in my humble opinion. Idaho and New Mexico make no sense for a majority of our programs. I'm glad to see Florida, Texas, Alabama, and South Carolina in the mix.

For context, the Sun Belt has a pool of 8 bowls. CUSA has a pool of 11. How did we come up short in that negotiation?

App State fans were about to go ballistic that the Sun Belt wouldn't allow for flexibility for the SBC Champ. Now that Gill has gotten it that way people are still pissy.

Idaho and New Mexico are in the pool. Doesn't mean a team will get those bowls. Especially if ESPN can pack a crowd in Myrtle, Florida or Montgomery

Dropped to FCS level in 2018, so I don't think you'll have to worry about competing with the Fightin Vandals

Referring to location and not potential schools playing IN the bowl.
