RE: Liberty will pay Texas State $1 Million to play in Lynchburg in 2024
Liberty is going to be the school everyone wants in their conference one day.
Say what you want, but when they start beating P5's like Boise State does, having over 30K+ avg. attendance, and being ranked in the Top 25... they're going to be a hot commodity. They have the resources to do it.

because if you play Liberty you are getting paid $1.5 million for an away game you have a decent chance at winning instead of being blown out by 60. You still schedule the body bag game.
But that’s my point, Liberty is only paying them 1M which is below market rate. Sure they are G5 and the game might be winnable but I would rather schedule an avg P5 team, make more money (even avg P5 programs pay up to 1.3/1.5M per game) and still have a shot at beating an mediocre P5 team.

Maybe it's below market rate but as others have said we also have Arizona State and UTSA at home that year AND Liberty would be way more winnable than any P5 bodybag game. Thats two automatic sellouts. 30,000x$30x2=$1,800,000 and that's lowballing it. Not all of the tickets will as cheap as $30 if at all. Add the Liberty money and we've made 2.8 million off of 3 games.

Our AD just confirmed the UCF game and Texas St was a package deal. We will flip the money they are paying us to Texas St for the visit. It’s the same exact deal we did with ODU and Auburn. It was most likely UCF was looking for a game and all three schools figured this was the best option. Liberty, unlike most G5 schools, doesn’t need the payday games. I think it makes a lot of sense and will definitely benefit us long term. The more we’re willing to work with other athletic departments they will be more willing to help us. Win/win

They are getting a good paycheck against a team they might beat. The last time Texas State won more than 3 games was in 2014. It ain’t rocket surgery

Why is it "bad optics" for TxState to go to Lynchburg?
It's not bad enough to prevent Louisiana, Appalachian, GaSouthern & Coastal from going up there.
Or Syracuse, Virginia, VaTech (twice), BYU, Wake Forest, Duke, UNC-CH, Army....
I thought he meant that they took a payday game from them instead of a H/H. Usually we only play those types of games against blueblood P5 schools.
Yes this is precisely what I meant.
Pretty sure this is our first guarantee game with a G5 team since moving to FBS.

We already have Arizona State on the schedule that year. Probably not ultra keen on 2 P5 teams in the same year, particularly given how non-competitive we've been over the last 5 years.
This is a much more winnable game for a bit less money.

Liberty has the money to play the FBS game. Several other schools do not but prostitution is the oldest business in the world.
There is a line up of schools hoping to be the client.

Liberty is Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack. No one likes him, but he's got a ton of cash to do whatever the F he wants, and it pisses everyone off even more.

If Liberty has all the money, if they decide they want to be in a conference, they will be the cause of the CUSA east separating from the west. They will just pay for friends and for someone to come over and play.

Please do that. That would be an easy lawsuit to win.
