RE: 2020 Preseason Poll
Been waiting to see Gage shine for the dukes. I've probably been a bit too high on him in the past, but still holding out hope that he is the next great QB. I think our OL play will be there and our WR core is actually stacked and coming in underrated right now. TE probably the biggest question mark on offense for me.

On defense, our line will still be great, LB core is also a bit underrated. I think we're good and have potential to be better at Safety. CB's were a disappointment for me last year and we lost some players, so that's the big question on the team for me this year.

Looking around the CAA, most teams seem to be returning a healthy chunk of starters, and I think the conference will be better than expected. The game with Villanova could decide the CAA champ and a top 4 seed, or UNH could backdoor the whole thing because they avoid playing both of us.

RE: 2020 Preseason Poll
With Cig's recruiting prowess, we are going to be a dominant team for the foreseeable future. I love that we have some really bigs on the OL, more like stereotypical P5 behemoths in the 6,4/310-320 range compared to the smaller, lighter offensive linemen Mickey favored. We have incoming freshmen who should be impact contributors right away. QB is our only real question, and all we really need is a guy who can hand off and complete the occasional dink to keep the D honest. Of those QBs available right now, I give the edge to Gage for his dual-threat capability, which we didn't use nearly enough with Nooch, especially in Frisco. My opinion.

I'm not sure I agree in regards to QB. Both Cole or Gage have no excuse to be ready for this opportunity. Cole and Gage are 2 QBs that knew this was coming. They both have had time to prepare. It's put up or shut up time now. There is no reason these guys shouldn't be ready to take over. Cole has been waiting for this moment for years. Gage has wanted to be the man since he got here.
Let's not forget the Freshmen coming in. These guys aren't coming here to keep the bench warm. Cignetti has shown that he isn't afraid to start a Freshman QB if he is the best player.
While I would love to see Gage get the start, I think Cole is going to be the guy. It wouldn't surprise me to see Gage play in a few packages as well (hopefully better than the NC game).
Are there questions at the position? Absolutely! I would say in regards to a QB competition, this one could be very good. I do hope one guy stands out more than the others (for better play, not because the other guy is making mistakes). This does not feel like a Dudzik/Thorpe competition to me. We have very good options and I think when we look back at this season, our QB situation will be a pleasant surprise.

I agree, except I gave Gage the edge due to his dual-threat capability, which I believe is important at our level. Cole may have the better arm, but do we really need that? I don't think so. We have a stable of studs at RB behind a very good OL. Defenses will be gunning for Cole in the pocket because he isn't much of a running threat. Gage keeps the D honest with his running ability.

And, I agree that we may see a guy under center who is not named Cole or Gage. Whoever it is, I have full faith in Cig's ability to choose the right QB.

RE: 2020 Preseason Poll
I wouldn’t be shocked if we ended up running the dreaded 2-QB system where both get some playing time.

Almost identical size, throw the ball 15-20 times a game with short to intermediate easy completions, make some plays with his legs and use a heavy run game to set up the play action. I think Cig sees this and will go with gage

Exactly the way I see it!

I think that would be terrible. I believe that in order for a team to build chemistry and rhythm, there must be consistency at QB.

I agree with both of you.

What is the old saying, if you have two QBs it means you don’t have a good QB.

RE: 2020 Preseason Poll
I'm hopeful that one of them will pan out to be the Bryan Schor to DiNucci's Vad Lee. It's nice to have the insanely athletic star QB ACC transfer and I hate that neither Vad nor Nooch got to leave JMU as a national champion, but there's enough talent at JMU that all we need is a solid QB. I also think the trust between Schor and his receivers, knowing if he puts a ball anywhere they have a chance at it they're gonna come through for him, was on a level you don't see very often. Maybe being a four year JMU guy had something to do with that.

RE: 2020 Preseason Poll
He transferred in from Lackawanna CC right? After Miami U pulled their offer or something? I might be misremembering.

Yeah, Miami fired their coach and the new coach rescinded his scholarship offer. Spent a spring at Lackawanna CC instead of grayshirting at Miami then four years at JMU.
