Looks like he would be a typical sit out transfer, but he could probably argue that COVID is forcing him to go to school close to home. Guessing the NCAA will be liberal with waivers.

Thanks for sharing the good news. Impressive stats on Loweee with 14.3 ppg as a freshman and in only 26 mpg. Though seems to have been on a dismal team. Regardless, he did this with 42% 3point shooting in D1 which would make him the best shooter at EMU.

In some ways it might be best for him to sit out the year. There seems to be a log jam at guard that considerably clears up after the season.

Great news!

His numbers suggest that he’s a gunner, and that’s precisely what we need. Our biggest weakness was scoring, and we added two guys in Lowder and McBride who do just that.

My guess is at least one of our other guards will transfer along with Barnes. Could be Spottsville, Montero, James, or even Morgan. No way do we carry that many guards.

Or Morgan and Montero play the wing and we go with a small lineup

From what I could find, he had interest from Memphis, Ole Miss, Colorado State, and BYU. Many are surprised he didn’t go to a high major, with the numbers he put up as a true freshman. I’m not sure how Murphy got him, but I’m not complaining. 3 years to play and I bet he gets immediate eligibility.

Murphy's is a great recruiter, the opposite of CC! If Murphy simply could run a consistent offense, look out...….

Holy Cross is in the non-scholarship Patriot League.

I don't know if that factors in.

Who knows. The Patriot League is still D1, and Lowder showed that he can score against big schools (Maryland) as a true freshman. Usually, that brings interest from the P5 coaches when you announce that you’re transferring.

I don’t know what factored in to him deciding to come here, but there has been an over abundance of transfers this offseason. Probably more supply than demand. My guess is that if he was a freshman transfer in 2018 or 2019 instead of this year, he would’ve ended up somewhere bigger.

Here is his game-by-game stat line:

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket...rew-lowder

1). Looks like he played a half-season. Did he leave at mid-year? (I can check that out).

2). His biggest output was a huge game vs. nationally ranked Maryland.

3). Last, but not least, he shot over 70% on FTs.

Yes, he was a mid year transfer. There is a tweet from March that CMU was hosting him during one of their MAC home games.

So, at worst, I think he would be eligible in January.

You are correct.

I saw one of his Tweets. It was of him playing for Pioneer at our very own Convo.

This is pure Murphy. Recruiting in May is 'musical chairs' where when the music stops the player needs a chair. My guess is that there are always more available players than open scholarship opportunities and it is a good market for coaches recruiting this late in the game.

Twenty years ago it was the opposite. Without all of these transfers players signing this late were usually fringe prospects. Not so now.

This is looking like our only option right now, honestly. Our only legit center has barely played any college basketball. I’m expecting either Binelli or Pacheco to get a ton of minutes in the middle of the zone. Hopefully that means Murphy plays a lot more full court basketball.

Both McBride and Lowder look like they like to run, so that might be the strategy. Play Groce, Morgan, Montero, and Dillard on the wings, while rotating Spottsville and James with the two new guards. Not bad on paper. But if we try to play with the same pace that we used last season, we will probably give up a ton of points.

Whoever the coach is in 21-22 will have Gibson James Lowder McBride Love Pacheo and Dillard not bad

Heads up, but Basketball is scholarship.
