I have been in advertising for 52 years and I can assure you, no advertiser knows that they are going to make a profit off their advertising. If they did, that was all they would do....spend every available dollar on advertising. Frankly, it is an EXPENSE and in most cases, no advertiser can be assured that the advertising they run is going to be effective. It is somewhat of a crap shoot. Some things work....some things don't.

Sorry that I wasn’t clear. I meant ESPiN’s profits. They sell the advertising time to make their (ESPiN’s) money was my intent.

Big 12: Oklahoma, Baylor

IF you think in a million years, that anyone; literally anyone would agree to a 16 team playoff system where the AAC, MWC, CUSA, Mid American, and Sun Belt conferences have the same number of teams as the ACC and PAC12...
You honestly can't be helped.
The AAC, MWC, CUSA, MAC, and SBC would agree to it.
Shoot, I'm anybody, and I would approve of it! Of course if Stammers meant anybody in a decision-making position, then that's a different statement.
And I have proof I can't be helped - my wife has been telling me that since the quarantine started....
I'm guessing that's what Stammers meant, but the setup was too good to pass up.
I think the quarantine is doing that to a lot of people.

Great. Thanks for the explanation. ESPN does make money off of the sale of advertising. In today's Covid economy...not sure they are selling enough advertising to make a profit since there is not much to sell because there is no live sports. But, I think they are part of Disney and so their income is not as dependent on profits as it would be if there were a lone company by themselves.

Would help prevent 1st round blow outs but they will still happen.
Hell there were blowouts with 1 v 2 BCS game and there are blowouts in the current 4 team tournament.
1 v 4
6 games
23.3 point average margin of victory
No game closer than 11 points
2 v 3
6 games
3 games, margin of victory 27,31,38 points
The cream of the crop and 9 out of 12 games with a margin of victory of 11 points or more. 8 out of the 12 games with a margin of victory of 17 points or more.
Yep that's the way it seems to go.
I think this would still be a be a huge money maker.
Just let the 8 conference championship game winners qualify, add 4 at-large teams. Seed the teams by whatever method.
Top 4 get first round byes.
Play the games. Make the money.
The biggest drawback is that these teams end up playing as many as 17 games and no fewer than 15.

Less the frenzied fanbases - as many of the bowls' attendance is small.
More the programming and advertising.

That's great, but as far as the NCAA Football Championship goes, it is the equivalent of being the tallest midget in the room.

Schedule, that said tommy was a good Dude
Imagine 2000 with a full season of Anglin or Suber....if I recall rightly, the Tigers lost Rip's last 4 games by a total of 12 points or close to that. they started 4-1 that year but Scott Scherer just didn't have the talent to match his heart. Who knows how that all shakes out if Scherer (the coach) finishes 6-5 or 7-4....he definitely is coaching the next couple of years for sure...
Ever since, the schedule has been soft except the Fuente's 3rd year when they played OM & UCLA.

Excellent list...maybe the AAC becomes a P6 conference and we lose this G5 label that ESPN has branded us with.

I called Woloshin’s radio show during Rip’s last year. My question “Who is the worst football coach in Memphis Tiger history?”. Dave answered “Rey Dempsey”. I replied “No, it’s Rip Scherer”.
I had computed the win/loss percentage for both, and Rip’s was definitely worse. And, I added that we had gotten rid of Dempsey after 2 years but were stuck with Rip for 6 endless years. At that time the Highland Hundred always gave the head coach a standing O when he was introduced. I had to quit attending because I could not in good conscience do that for Scherer.
Just my humble opinion.

It's great but by year's end there will be about 5 G5 schools ranked. We are lower than we should be based upon last season & who we have back - just confirms again the P5 bias. We should be a top 15.
If a G5 team starts in the top 15 that team might have a shot at the bcs invitational tournament. It is meaningless except for the fact that they want to make sure only a few teams have a shot at it. This way they make sure the regular season is meaningless, oops i meant to say interesting.
