HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - The owners of a Hub City business sued the City of Hattiesburg and Mayor Toby Barker, claiming the city violated their constitutional rights after the business was closed under state and local executive orders.

Charles Bradford Ramey and Herbert Taylor Ramey, owners of Updown Trampoline Park, filed the suit in federal court Friday.

The Rameys claim the city violated their constitutional rights by passing ordinances, which also incorporates state executive orders, that allow the city to enforce the closure of the business due to COVID-19.

Gov. Tate Reeves ordered non-essential businesses closed with his shelter-in-place order on April 1. Non-essential businesses included under the order were

The suit claims this is a violation of the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the Mississippi Constitution, which prohibit the taking of private property for public use without just compensation. The lawsuit argues ordinances imposing fines and possible imprisonment for violating the closure order are effectively taking the business without compensation due to losses in income.

According to the suit, the business has been issued citations from the City of Hattiesburg and the Hattiesburg Police Department for violations of these orders. Four citations are included in the suit as exhibits.

Well things are returning to normal in Auburn. I did my 5 clicks this morning and the lap pool at the old Junior High was open and in use with lifeguard on duty. There was more people out than in the past couple of months, and I found 26 cents on the ground, a first since the inception of the COVID scare.

I started scanning the ground for coins years ago when I walked and I have found it to be a great precursor of recession. In good economic years I'll find an average of over a penny a day for the year. In recessions you can cut that by 2/3rds. I've walked every day since COVID started and haven't found a penny until today.

Think of it as my groundhog saying the sun is coming back out on the economy. I'm still down for the year having only found 85 cents to date. But last year under Trump I busted 4 bucks.

And I just do it to pass the time and keep my eyes focused on something which 100 yards away in my rifle sights would be about the size of a bogey. It takes me about 37 minutes to do 2.5 miles so the scanning does help the vision. You may now address me as Dr. JR.

Hell yeah, much clearer than at arms length. I got my fist pair of readers last year. Still had 20/20 uncorrected until then. What's screwing me up now though is I think I'm developing a cataract in my left eye. I have no problems during the day but the glare at night is awful in that eye. I've always used open sights. If it's moving I don't want a scope. And down here you aren't getting a clear shot at 100 yards anyway.

I love my Chicom milled AK. Nothing better ever made for wild hogs except maybe a Russian milled model. Most are stamped pieces of crap. For close work I still cling to my Gubment model Colt and a Gerber hunting knife with a gut hook. When I was a kid I had a Winchester M1 Garand with a 4 twist barrel for a deer rifle. It was sweet but 14 plus lbs loaded and strapped. Still, it was highly accurate. And yes my thumb is still functional.
