Question for LA Tech fans
As I read the whole Conference USA/Sunbelt thread I keep seeing a recurring theme that La Tech hates La Monroe and wants nothing to do with them, won’t be in a conference with them, etc.. so my question is what is the history there? What is the story? Is it a common rivalry or is it true hatred? Why the hate? Is it mutual? Does Tech feel the same way about Lafayette ?? I know the schools are very close, what is the story I’m curious?

I’ll give my two cents that don’t mean much, but they are basically 30 minutes apart. Tech was founded in 1894 and is the second oldest FBS public school in Louisiana compared to ULM which was found in 1931 as a two year university and Tech still looks at them as a Juco.

RE: Question for LA Tech fans
It’s more antipathy. ULM has no real support and should have never made the jump. They do however block us from a lot of media coverage in one of our biggest markets. That and the fact that all our hard work and history of winning would be all for naught if we ended up back in a conference with a program that siphons funds from the rest in the state. Now when you talk about ULL, we hate them sum bit***es.

ULM is an FCS caliber program. Would you want to be in an even weaker conference with a noncontributor every year like that? They (and the other Sunbelt teams) only travel a fraction of the # of fans we take to road games against them. We simply don't want to be on the same level as ULM, UL-Laf, and Arkansas St. That is it in a nutshell, regardless of what they would like you to believe.

I don’t mind playing Arkansas State and ULL. I don’t mind Texas State or Georgia Southern either. ULM is were I draw the line. I hate ULL as much as the next one, but the games draw a decent crowd.

RE: Question for LA Tech fans
As an overall athletic department at least ULL brings something to the table. Really good on the diamonds and decent everywhere else. Good following, especially given their proximity to the purple and gold devil. And also, as anyone who knows Louisiana can attest, there is a difference between north and south Louisiana. ULL is like being in another state.

ULM...hmmmm? Nada.

Cant speak for Tech fans, but in all these realignment scenarios, Monroe is the one school that I have no interest in getting back together with. They really just need to do the drop down thing with the MAC. Arky State and the Ragin Cajuns? Heck yeah. I miss them and I respect them.

The USA Today report on revenues clearly showed ULM as an outlier compared to the other C-USA and Sunbelt programs. ULM was below some of the Texas Southland Conference programs. This is a concern.

Most USM fans wouldn't have any problem being in a conference with ULM, UL, Troy or Arkansas State. Those are easy locations for us bbn to travel and for them to travel to us. Do you think the national media really cares if we are playing against UNT/UTEP or ULM/UL. The local media would certainly prefer UL/ULM.

Who’s ULx? ULM or ULL indifferent really. We have dominated them on the field. It is easy for ULL to run through the Sunbelt because it is so incredibly weak. Then they play us and we give them a dose of reality.

Their fans look of disbelief at 3:00min when Tech was up 42-7 says it all “but but we were 10-1 in the Sunbelt!” 03-lmfao

Absolutely right. Games at ULM would be easy travel for Louisiana Tech fans. And who really gives a damn who we play anyway? At least they're FBS.

The fact is that ULM would beat LTU on occasion, and they want to save themselves the embarrassment.

No Tech fan cares about easy travel to Monroe. You've obsessed about Tech being in a conference with the UL twins for a while now on this message board.
