I think it will continue. The series is too important for both schools and makes each school a lot of money. Just try getting tickets to that game and see what you have to pay. Plus the City of Dallas pays each school to play in the old Cotton Bowl stadium.

The schools have successfully played that game from the 1920's to 1995 with the schools in different conferences.

Could Texas use the RRR to blackmail Oklahoma into staying in the Big 12/preventing them from leaving? I would think Oklahoma needs to play Texas more than vice versa even though Oklahoma's better now and they likely will move to a better conference. Would it be a bluff and will Oklahoma leave and dare Texas to cancel it? The networks as well as Dallas of course will pay a ton of money to keep it going. Then again, you don't think the networks won't pay a pretty penny for UT/A&M?

Possibly but maybe not. Texas needs that game too. Imagine if Oklahoma went to the SEC, Texas refused to play the RRR, and Oklahoma and TAMU agreed to play their conference game at the State Fair in it’s place.

If Texas goes independent it becomes all the more important to preserve that big money game.

Where Texas might have some leverage is if Oklahoma goes to the Big Ten and has less access to Texas recruiting but Oklahoma could easily move a home game to the DFW Metroplex annually.

LOL. I’m not sure what the contract looks like for the RRR - there may be a exclusivity clause saying something like neither school can play a neutral game in DFW during the Texas State Fair against any other school than the other school or in any other neutral site game called the Red River Rivalry or anything the other schools seems too similar. I doubt that’s in there but I suspect some kind of exclusivity clause

RE: What Conference(s) Will Texas and Oklahoma Be in 2025?
A few years back, before the City of Dallas renovated and expanded the stadium to insure the game stayed in Dallas, there was a big money guy by the name of E. Z. Million....that was his actual name and he wanted to move the game out of Dallas and play home and home. That effort was not well received by any of the parties involved.

For those who are not familiar with the game, the Cotton bowl is almost to the mile an equal distance from Austin and Norman. Thousands of former Okies live in the DFW area. The weekend of the game thousands upon thousands of Oklahoma and Texas fans descend on Dallas, many will not have tickets to the game.

The stadium is inside the fairgrounds and held during the middle of the Texas State Fair which is a huge event in Texas. To go to the game you have to buy a ticket to the State fair. The day of the game, thousands of people gather inside the fair grounds and enjoy the fair then watch the game on TV inside a huge building next to the stadium or else where. I have been one of those people who drove 250 miles without a ticket to the game and did just that.

For the hotels, bars, restaurants etc., it is a very lucrative weekend and that is why the City of Dallas wants the game to continue. Not to mention the millions of dollars they invested in improving and expanding the stadium when Jerry Jones wanted to move the game to his stadium in Arlington. This game is the only reason the stadium still exists.

The game is a classic. The stadium seats 96,000 and it is equally divided between the two schools. From the 50 yard line around one end zone to the other 50 yard line. One end red and the other orange. The noise never stops. There is no home team or visitor.

It is a very raucous event. Darrell Royal who played for Oklahoma and coached Texas once said, it is no place for the timid. I have had very close friends that played in the game for both OU and Texas. They said walking out on the floor of the stadium was an experience like no other, because of the intensity.

The average fan cannot buy tickets to this game, you have be a donor with points etc. I have no idea how much money each school makes for this game, but it has got to be ton.

All of the above and more are why the RRR will continue.

Yeah the RRS will always remain and i gotta laugh at ever thinking aggy could fill the shoes of UT vs ou in Dallas. You would think aggy and LSU could have made a similar game in Houston every season, but they didn't.

I bet if UT and Arkansas decided to do a neutral game at Jerry World every season, Jerry would cancel his agreement in hosting aggy vs pig there in a heartbeat.

Texas wouldn't use the RRS to blackmail ou. We as fans hate each other but the admin understands how important it is to compete on the field together.

Well that would be because both can fill up 100,000 seat stadia. Why on Earth would you want a 60,000 seat venue where you sacrifice even more of the proceeds and all of the concessions when both already recruit Houston well enough?

RE: What Conference(s) Will Texas and Oklahoma Be in 2025?
Like a lot of threads, this one leaves me with more questions than answers. Some of my questions are:

Would the SEC be willing to take Oklahoma without any other Big XII partner?

If they were, would the Sooners accept an invitation?

If they did, who would the SEC want as a 16th member?

If they want to expand into NC or VA, and could only have one team from the ACC, would the SEC prefer Virginia Tech or North Carolina State?

Would either of those schools accept an invitation? If they wanted to, could they?

What would ESPN prefer?

Could the ACC be persuaded to let either of those teams go without a fight?

*************************************************************

I could see some merit in an Oklahoma - NC State combination, with West Virginia replacing State in the ACC. But that would leave the Big XII with only 8 members. Would they consider inviting BYU for football only? Would they accept?

So many questions, so few answers.

For the atmosphere? I don't know but from all accounts it's more special at the cottonbowl than a game in college station or Baton Rouge. Guess you can ask the same for the Cocktail outdoor party (even thought they do use an NFL stadium).

**I never been to a game in CS but I have attended 3 RRS

I think the ACC and the new GOR that they signed through 2037 (or so) makes it difficult for VA, FL schools to bolt. I think they are safe unless something unforeseen happens and enough of the schools want out so the agreement is void.

Feels like the only big play for either the B16 or SEC is UT/ou in some combination. However I do think the B16 is also looking out west to see what the PAC does or doesn't do over the next few years. Maybe they decide to Prestige World Wide the conference and take the SoCal, stanford and Washington?

No one truly knows but we should get a clearer picture each summer that goes by til 2024

I've been to Dallas where the good Orange meets the bad Red at the 50 and to Jacksonville where the good red meets the ugly orange in the end zone. Those are special games. Nothing quite like it (except maybe Army-Navy in Philly which I haven't been to). Outside the stadium, inside the stadium, in Dallas at the state fair.

Its not just competing. Its the financial value to the schools. Getting tickets to the game is a heavy driver of season tickets and donations.

How is Texas/Oklahoma different from Texas/Texas A&M back in 2011? If I told any of you they'd stop playing would you have said the same thing?

oklahoma is different since they have had a lot of success in football compared to aggy. However aggy is a huge game for the state of TX. It's the two biggest schools in the state and almost everyone has a favorite when it comes to it. The game should be played every season on thanksgiving or black Friday.

The RRS is SPECIAL.. whole experience of partying in Dallas Friday night and stumble to your hotel for a 3 hour nap and shower.. then proceed to the fairgrounds. Just doesn't feel that way in Austin or College station.

If UT or ou ever decided to stop playing.. it would be devastating.

The rivalries are different. UT vs A&M is a normal in-state rivalry. Longhorns and Aggies live together and can't stand each other. They can't even agree on why they quit playing, much less when and where they should play again. It was the biggest game on the schedule for A&M. It's debatable if A&M or OU was the biggest game for UT. It was played home-and-home, so it had the atmosphere of the biggest home game on the schedule. But, it's a home game every other year. It's not the same as OU-Texas.

OU-Texas is a whole different animal. Yes, the schools hate each other's guts. It's played at a neutral site exactly halfway between the two schools. It's played at the Texas State Fair, adding to the atmosphere. Losing this game makes the season a partial failure. Nothing is worse than losing this game. Winning it makes the season a partial success, no matter how bad the rest of the season is (I'll always remember 1996-OU was a pathetic 3-8 team, but beat Texas). The only thing better is a national or conference championship. It's bigger than a bowl game (except a CFP game). It's a big party weekend. It's a huge fundraiser for both schools. Texas needs this game as much as OU does. It's not going away, no matter what happens with conference realignment.

OU was a much bigger game for Texas. It had more than just local implications. For that matter, for a time, Arkansas and Houston were bigger games for Texas.

And the financial side makes it a much bigger game for the Athletic Department.

Is it just me or does Texas carry more into any regional game or national game than aggy can? If UT played LSU every season would it be just as big as last seasons game? Or would it be similar to the annual game aggy plays vs LSU? I know just one arkansas fan and he absoultely rather play UT than the other school. I wonder if that's because UT and Pig don't play every year like they do vs aggy or if it's because it's just bigger history?

In 2018, Texas A&M's football program earned $20M more in profit than Texas. Texas A&M was ranked #1 and Texas was ranked #2. I haven't seen more recent numbers than those.

As far as home game attendance goes...Texas' average numbers: 2018 (97,713) & 2019 (96,305). Texas A&M's average numbers: 2018 (99,844) & 2019 (101,542).

Games against LSU: 2018 (LSU @ Texas A&M - 101,501), 2019 (LSU @ Texas - 98,763 / home vs. Texas A&M - 102,218).

I couldn't find a good site for TV viewership per school for the entire season instead of just per matchup. That would be telling as well.

oklahoma is different since they have had a lot of success in football compared to aggy.

Texas-Arkansas was a rivalry for 70 years. In the 60s, it decided the national championship 3 times. There have been at least 2 books written about that 1969 game that the president attended. Texas was the USC/Ohio St./Alabama/FSU of the SWC. Texas went 4-7 in 1997 and had 3 different schools tear down their goalposts when they beat Texas.

A&M had some big fund-raising program that year. Oregon was #1 one year when they had a big Nike donation. Every other year in the last 10 or so, Texas has been #1 in athletics revenue. A&M is top 10, but that #1 year was an unusual situation.

Kyle Field renovations with some big 1 time gifts.

Were the profit margins what was leftover from the renovations or was it the amount in fund-raising above and beyond the expenditures for the team?
