unfortunately a large percentage of the fans from the glory days of UAB basketball are dead. if you were fifty when we made the elite eight you would be 88 today.

With the new coach and new players, there will be glory days ahead. Just need to win and believe.

I was blessed as I was a freshman in 1978 and graduated in 1982...

I also suspect that AK will have some excitement building by that time, and we'll have a whole lot of folks back who have found someplace else to be the past few years.
I'll be there.
A crowd of 8.367 showed up on Dec. 22, 2009 to see UAB beat Butler. It was a great atmosphere. Now, Georgia Tech is not nearly as good as that Butler team, but, hopefully there will be a similar crowd and similar atmosphere.
It should be noted that the Butler loss to UAB was its last loss for that season until they lost to Duke in the National Championship Final Four game,
If I recall correctly UAB went into halftime with a pretty sizable lead with AJ dominating whoever their PG was and Milsap having a helluva game. Second half was better for Butler when they put a larger body (Gordon Haywood) on AJ and slowed him down a bit...
I was at the game. it was awesome. Homewood represented for Nored too.
They were over in section 226/227 making a whole lotta noise.
This was a major factor in the win...
"Hayward had 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting and 15 rebounds. He had scored 70 points over his last three games."
I remember him whining and crying when we bumped, grabbed and held him coming off screens..

Perfect. We need to take what we can get and not try to dictate terms we don’t currently deserve. Let’s win some big games then we can get some home and homes with power Conference teams.
Even though I had just moved to Indiana in September I was able to be at both games. The Arkansas game was awesome. In a five game stretch UAB went 4-1. Beating Cincy, USA, Butler, and Arkansas. Losing to Virginia. All were ranked except for USA.
I think the Davis era is really underrated. His rep here is tarnished because of his failures to beat Memphis and the consistently poor performances in the CUSA Tourney, but we beat some pretty good teams during his tenure. BTW, Im speaking strictly about what his teams did on the court. I'm well aware of all of the other issues that went on during his time here.
It should have been but we were seeing the landscape changing leaning more toward power teams.
Good with some 2-1 s sprinkled in. I don’t know about earning the right to schedule HHS. What has some pathetic power teams done to earn the right to dictate? If you say their past I can say our past. You get what you can scheduling without selling your soul. We still have to make a budget. We still need to schedule 25 plus wins. It’s a delicate balance.
All that said it’s on UAB fans now. We all talked a good game. Make a change and we will show up. Ok done. I’m not talking about showing up for Ga Tech (I’ll be hopeful but surprised if we can sell it out). I’m talking about for games vs Troy for example. We should be embarrassed if the building is less that half full. No excuses. It’s sad we can’t regularly halfway fill our building. I hope that changes.

We got ranked right after the Butler and Cincy wins. Last time we were in the Top 25.
The Davis era is what we thought it was. You can’t overlook his teams failures on the court and I liked Davis a lot. At least one of his personalities. I did think we were screwed by the selection committee but in all honesty just one win over Memphis would have put us in a couple of times. It would have been nice to see what he could have done with full rosters. He was an under rated in some respects but he would sometimes wig out in big games.
I’ll give him this. He in my opinion was the best coach we have ever had at UAB including Gene at drawing up a play out of a time out.

We really should be embarrassed if the hated Troy Trojans beat us in our home floor again. We need to beat them like they stole something.
Not if they are pathetic and have bad numbers. You ever listen to Jerry Palm give a non power team no credit for beating a power team. I do every year. Beating bad power team with a crappy RPI does nothing to get you in the NCAAs. Sorry but no point is being a guy game for a crap power team. It does nothing but gives you a win.
Sorry but we are not going to schedule like a MEAC or SWAC team not sorry.

That should be every time we play them and we don’t need to have only 2,000 in the building. That is also embarrassing.
