And this is another component to the reason why I'm not "all in" on this. Obviously, colleges are now going to turf for their baseball fields. Here are the 16 teams that hosted a regional last year: UCLA, Vandy, Oklahoma State, ECU, Texas Tech, Louisville, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Stanford, Ole Miss, LSU, North Carolina, Auburn, and Florida State. You can also add Florida in there, but they didn't host in 2019.

The average temperature in Atlanta on June 30, is at 88.
The average temperature in Dallas on June 30, is at 93.
The average tempature in Oklahoma City on June 30, is at 91.

That's the tempature, not the heat index. When you factor in turf fields, you're going to see baseball fields go up to 110-120 degrees.

When you're dealing with regionals and super regionals, you're going to deal with TV time and slots for first pitches. Obviously, you can't start the regionals and super regionals out west for 12PM ET start time, because it's going to be way too early for them. Saying that, there are going to be two-three regionals that will begin at 3:30 PM ET on June 30, have fun with that.
There's a reason why the Braves play their games at 7:30 PM ET, and the Marlins and Rays have indoor stadiums.

If you're a northern team that is complaining about the weather in February, the roles could be reversed in June when you're playing in 70-75 degree weather and no humidity, while teams in the south are playing in 85-90 degree weather, blazing sun, and humidity as well. The heat can take a toll.

This is just an idea from college baseball coaches who probably got stuck at home, so they called their buddies about thinking of some random idea.

MLB manages to get by in a few hot places in the summer.

Can they move late season games to a mostly night game schedule to alleviate the heat issue?

They could, but if you've ever been in South Louisiana in the dead of summer you'd know that nighttime is often more miserable than daytime. The air is so thick you almost need gills to breathe. My observation was strictly personal. The heat won't stop everyone from going to games, and I would probably go to a couple, but not regularly. I would not buy season tickets.

Hadn't considered the point you and downswinging are making, but honestly now that I have it's enough to make me reconsider being in favor of the proposal. Forget the fans, can you imagine being forced to play in that type of heat all the time? Seems like a massive recruiting disadvantage.

At first I thought this would balance things for northern teams, but just seems like it would take any disadvantages they have and flip them, so they become disadvantages for the southern teams. I'm not in favor of changing things unless they actually bring some semblance of balance to the sport

Another factor is summer ball, especially Cape Cod League.

If I was a scout, I would predict that Memphis' Hunter Goodman would probably get drafted in rounds 10-15 for either the 2021-2022 draft (depends on which one he enters).
Pro about Hunter Goodman: He can hit (.358 AVG, 25 hits in 70 at-bats/17 games, 8 HR, 31 RBI, 52 TB, .743% SLG)
Con about Hunter Goodman: He hasn't seen top competition

So, Hunter can benefit from playing in the Cape Cod League and move up the draft board if he performs well. By playing a later season, you basically have ruined that chance for Hunter (and many others college baseball players) go get drafted higher and move up the board.

First or second weekend of March is a nice compromise.

Regionals middle June, super regionals end of June, July 4th college world series, Omaha shouldn't be too bad.

Also the minor leagues, summer, rookie, etc are all vastly changing and that will mean a change in schedules a d college players decisions.

Has anyone thought about the possibility that all of this is being considered in ordination with MLB... as an effort to eliminate the expenses of Minor League Baseball and use the colleges as a Minor League farm system similar to the NBA?
