Odd how Dye made his mark as a coach at Auburn and Vince Dooley at Georgia. Also Darrell Royal made his at Texas.

Pat Dye got the Auburn job for what he accomplished at East Carolina.

(the point was Pat Dye played at Georgia, Vince Dooley at Auburn and Darrell Royal at Oklahoma).

Actually Bullet XLance is just plain wrong. Pat Dye got the job at Auburn because our Trustees knew he was Bear Bryant's choice of replacement at Alabama and Bear was planning retirement when Auburn hired Dye. Pat Dye was perhaps Bryant's favorite pupil of an assistant coach and the two were quite close. Auburn saw a chance to scoop Alabama and took it. Dye was successful everywhere he had been and we actually hired him away from Wyoming I think. Though his work at ECU was well recognized.

EDIT & UPDATE: As it turns out Dye is COVID19 positive but asymptomatic. It's kidney issues that have him so sick.
